Valve Cover: Service and Repair

Valve Cover
Both Sides

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery negative lead.
2. Disconnect crankcase breather hose from cover.

NOTE: Instructions 3,4,5 & 6 apply to RH Cover Only.

3. Depressurize fuel system.





4. Remove fuel feed pipe from fuel rail.
5. Release fuel pressure regulator return pipe from clip.
6. Release heater hose from clip on inlet manifold.

NOTE: Instructions 7,8 & 9 apply to LH Cover Only.

7. Release plenum chamber. Place aside for access.
8. Release purge hose from ram pipe housing. Place hose aside.





9. Remove screw securing dipstick tube to rocker cover.





10. Remove H.T. leads from spark plugs and guide clips on rocker covers.





11. Remove 4 bolts securing rocker cover to cylinder head.
12. Remove rocker cover.
13. Remove and discard rocker cover gasket.

INSTALLATION
1. Clean mating faces between rocker cover and cylinder head using Bostick cleaner 6001 or equivalent. Allow to dry.
2. Apply a thin coating of Bostick 1775 or equivalent to mating faces of rocker cover and new gasket.
3. Allow adhesive to cure.
4. Install gasket to rocker cover.
5. Install rocker cover to cylinder head.
6. Install rocker cover bolts. Tighten to 9 Nm (7 ft. lbs.).
7. Install H.T. leads to spark plugs. Secure leads to rocker cover clips. Align dipstick tube. Secure to rocker cover with screw.
8. Reconnect purge hose to ram pipe housing.
9. Install plenum chamber.
10. Secure heater hose to clip on inlet manifold.
11. Secure fuel pressure regulator return pipe in clip.
12. Reconnect fuel feed pipe to fuel rail.
13. Reconnect breather hose to rocker cover.
14. Reconnect battery negative lead.
