Installation
1. Lubricate seal and lip with gear oil.NOTE:
Use the side of the tool marked "Front".
2. With the metal ring facing the tool press in the new seal with tool # LRT-54-013 (figure 4).
3. Using tool # LRT-54-005, install bearing as follows:
^ Orient bearing so part # is visible when installed.
^ Bearing is flush with the end face of the stub axle (figure 5).
4. Clean stub axle/spindle housing mating surfaces.
5. Place a new gasket on mating surface.
6. Coat stub axle bolt threads with Loctite(R) 270.
7. Install stub axle with flat at 12 o'clock position.
! Make sure that the constant velocity joint bearing journal is butted against the thrust ring on the stub axle before the stub axle is secured or else damage will occur.
8. Place mud shield in position and install stub axle to spindle housing with six bolts. Tighten to 65 Nm (48 lbf. ft).
9. Install hub assembly to axle.
10. Install spacing washer and hub nut.
11. Tighten hub nut to 50 Nm (37 lbf. ft).
12. Rotate hub assembly and ensure free rotation with no bearing play.
13 Back hub nut off 90°C and tighten to 10 Nm (90 lbf. in.). This will give the required end play of 0.01 mm (0.0004 in).
14. Fit locking tab washer.
15. Fit second hub nut and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lbf. ft).
16. Lock both inner and outer nuts with locking tab washer.
17. Install new gasket on driving member and install driving member to hub. Secure with five bolts. Tighten to 65 Nm (48 lbf. ft).
18. Install original axle shaft shim and secure with snap ring.
19. To check axle shaft end play, mount a dial indicator using bracket # LRT-99-503 and rest pin in a loaded condition on the end of the axle shaft (figure 6).
20. Install a suitable bolt to the threaded end of the drive shaft. Move shaft in and out and note the dial indicator reading. End play should be between 0.08 to 0.25 mm. (0.003 to 0.010 in.).
21. If end play requires adjustment, remove snap ring, measure shim thickness, and fit an appropriate shim to give required end play.
22. Remove bolt from axle shaft, install snap ring and dust cap.
23. Install brake caliper and tighten bolts to 82 Nm (61 lbf. ft).
24. Make sure swivel housing drain plug is tight. Remove filler and level oil plugs (figure 7). Fill to level plug with GL4 or GL5 gear oil. Replace plugs and clean surplus oil from housing.
25. Install road wheel, remove jack stands, and tighten lug nuts to 126 Nm (93 lbf. ft).
26. Operate foot brake to locate brake pads before road test.
