Leaks may originate in and around the LH and RH valve Covers. If one valve cover gasket is leaking, both should be replaced.

The diagnostic steps and repair procedures detailed on the following pages were developed as an element of the Land Rover Way OPERATION PRIDE. This TIB provides a library location for PRIDE information within the Land Rover North America technical literature system.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon Customer complaint for the symptoms outlined, perform the specified repairs.

Replace valve cover gaskets

PROCEDURE

Perform the diagnostic procedures and repairs outlined in the following pages for the replacement of valve cover gaskets. Valve cover leaks can originate in any of the following areas:

^ Valve cover gasket
^ Valve cover mounting bolts
^ Oil filler neck base (96 MY only) - Refer to TIB 12/09/96/US.
^ RH valve cover crankcase vent tube (96 MY only) - Refer to TIB 12/10/96/US.
^ LH valve cover crankcase air inlet tube (96 MY only) - Refer to TIB 12/10/96/US.

If one of the valve cover gaskets is leaking both should be replaced.

If there is evidence of engine oil leaking from any of the areas listed above, the following procedures must be carried out in the correct sequence using recommended procedures to ensure the leak is repaired completely and correctly.
