Procedures

TIMING CHAIN REPLACE
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove cooling fan and viscous coupling assembly and drive belt.
3. Remove water pump pulley.
4. Remove distributor cap with wiring and position aside.
5. Rotate engine until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC position.
6. Remove power steering pump bracket from water pump. Pivot power steering pump away from front cover.
7. Disconnect vacuum line from distributor.
8. Remove water pump bottom hose.
9. Disconnect oil pressure switch.
10. Disconnect heater hose at water pump.
11. Remove alternator tensioner from water pump and position aside.

12. Mark distributor position to front cover, then remove distributor, Fig. 6.
13. Remove oil pan as outlined under "Oil Pan", Replace.
14. Remove alternator support strut to front cover.
15. Remove front cover.
16. Remove distributor drive gear and spacer.
17. Ensure No. 1 cylinder is at TDC position, then remove timing chain and chain wheels as an assembly.
18. Reverse procedure to install noting:
a. Ensure timing marks are aligned.
a. Tighten to specification.
