DETAIL

There have been several changes to the hood release mechanism on the Defender 90 to improve it's reliability. A history of changes are as follows:

1. A new cable routing was introduced at VIN 954740.

2. A new hood catch striker pin assembly was introduced at VIN 954740. This features a lower rate spring which is painted yellow.

3. A new stainless steel hood release cable was introduced at VIN 966427. This replaced the old cable (ALR6884) which could corrode.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of stiff hood release or inoperative hood release, follow the procedure below.

PARTS INFORMATION

MUC4803 - Hood Catch Striker Pin Assembly (with revised lower rate spring painted yellow).

ALR9555 - Stainless Steel Hood Release Cable (replaces ALR6884).

PROCEDURE





Ensure the hood release mechanism parts are to the latest specification and the correct cable routing is used:





a. Ensure the hood release cable routing is correct Refer to the illustration on page 2.

b. Update the striker pin assembly if the existing spring is not painted yellow.

c. Fit the latest cable and route as shown in the illustration if the vehicle is prior to VIN 966427.
