There have been reports that the Defender 90 door tops (with sliding windows) are being replaced completely when they could be repaired. There are two main areas of concern:
1) The lock mechanism consists of a handle (held on by a screw), a pivot pin and a locking cam which is pressed into the end of the pin. Sometimes the lock mechanism fails due to the cam coming disengaged with the pivot.
2) Windows may need to be replaced.
ACTION REQUIRED
Upon customer complaint repair lock mechanism or window. Follow procedure below.
PARTS INFORMATION
1) AFU 2637 Rivets (Qty. 4)
ADU 1221L Screw (Qty. 1)
2) AFU 2637 Rivets (Qty. 6)
PROCEDURE
1) A. Drill out the four rivets securing lock mechanism to the door top frame (DO NOT remove screws in lock mechanism), unlatch lock mechanism, and, by carefully prying the lower edge, withdraw lock mechanism.
B. Refit cam into pivot pin and secure with ADU 1221L screw.
C. Reinstall lock mechanism by slipping it back into place and installing the AFU 2637 rivets.
2) A. Drill out four rivets and remove lock mechanism, as above. Drill out two rivets at each end of the removable rail and withdraw screws (4) from the channel in the rail.
B. Withdraw rail from frame. Refit window onto rails and into grooves.
C. Ensuring that the windows remain in grooves, reinsert the removable rail. Secure with AFU 2637 rivets (4).
E. Reinstall lock mechanism, as stated in 1.
NOTE:
Lock mechanism and removable rail are sealed with a pliable sealer to prevent water from entering vehicle. If this pliable sealer has been removed, apply sealer to mating edges of the parts.
