Update Prior to Sale: Front Subframe Bolts Incorrectly Torqued

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
XF (X250)





VIN: Specific vehicles; see attached list

Model Year: 2012

CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation:
A concern has been identified with a limited number of 2012 model year XF vehicles where the front subframe rear bolts have the incorrect torque applied.

Action:
Retailers are required to HOLD all affected vehicles in the above VIN range that are in their control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new or used vehicle sale pending completion of the rework action
detailed in this Technical Bulletin. This rework action should be performed after completing the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) process.

Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times / prices are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.
Check DDW to ensure that the vehicle is affected by this Service Action prior to undertaking any rework action. At the time of confirming a booking for vehicle repair, ensure that all outstanding Service Actions are identified to ensure the correct parts are available and adequate workshop time is allocated for repairs to be completed at one visit.

Warranty claims must be submitted quoting Program Code 'K154' together with the relevant Option Code from the table. The SRO and part information listed have been included for information only. The Option Code(s) that allows for the drive in / drive out allowance can only be claimed if the vehicle is brought back into the workshop for this action alone to be undertaken.





This Update Prior to Sale notice is valid for a limited time only. Warranty claims with a repair date prior to the 15 March 2013 closure date must be submitted for payment within 30 calendar days of completion of the repair.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Refer to Workshop Manual section 100-02 and raise and support the vehicle.

2. NOTE: 5.0L Supercharged only.
Refer to Workshop Manual section 501-02 and remove the radiator splash shield.





3. NOTE:
Remove and replace only one bolt at a time.

NOTE:
Right-hand shown; left-hand similar.
Remove and discard the front subframe right-rear bolt.

4. Install a new front subframe right-rear bolt.

^ Tighten the new bolt to 80Nm + 240° (59 lbf ft + 240°).

5. Remove and discard the front subframe left-rear bolt.

6. Install a new front subframe left-rear bolt.

Tighten the new bolt to 80Nm + 240° (59 lbf ft + 240°).





7. NOTE: Do not loosen / remove the bolt.
With a torque wrench set to 250Nm (185 lbf ft), over-check the torque of the front subframe right-front bolt.





8. NOTE: Do not loosen / remove the bolt.
With a torque wrench set to 250Nm (185 lbf ft), over-check the torque of the front subframe left-front bolt.

9. NOTE: 5.0L Supercharged only.
Refer to Workshop Manual section 501-02 and install the radiator splash shield.

10. Lower the vehicle.
