CAUTION:
Ensure care is used to properly pin the blind to avoid damage during removal and installation.

CAUTION:
Ensure the opposite side of the blind remains in the casting.

5. Firmly grasp the roller blind to prevent unwinding.

6. Move the dowel side from the casting by moving the blind towards the lock side.

CAUTION:
Ensure the opposite side of the blind remains in the casting

7. While maintaining a firm grip on the blind, move the blind end down and away from the casting.

CAUTION:
The blind must be pinned to hold spring tension prior to removal from the casting Ensure the blind is fully retracted (rolled up).

8. Rotate the blind to view the pinning hole in the roller:

^ The blind shaft must be extended to line up the roller and shaft pinning holes.

CAUTION:
Ensure the roller shaft remains engaged in the casting until pinned; do not over-extend the shaft.

9. While maintaining a firm grip on the blind, extend the shaft only far enough to expose the pinning hole in the shaft:

10. Line up the pinning holes in the shaft and the roller.

CAUTION:
Use only the hardened locking pin supplied in the box with the new casting or an Allen wrench or drill bit to pin the roller to the shaft Do not use a paper clip.

NOTE:
In the event the blind tension is released, refer to SSM45450 New Jaguar XJ Panoramic Roof Blind Re tensioning Procedure, to re4ension the blind.

11. Insert the locking pin through the holes in the roller and the shaft.

12. Once the pin is installed, the firm grip may be released from the blind.

13. Perform steps 1 - 12 for the Panoramic roof rear blind.

NOTE:
Drive spindle shown removed from vehicle for clarity.

14. Remove the front blind drive spindle:

^ Slide the shaft towards the spring side.

^ Remove the shaft from the drive flange.

NOTE:

15. Either using a pair of needle nose pliers to grip the drive spindle flange ((1)) or with a small screw driver to push on the roll pin and move the spindle flange to the left and reposition into the aperture ((2)).

NOTE:
The rear blind drive spindle may be removed from the LH side without removing the aperture trim panel from around the Panoramic roof fixed glass panel.

NOTE:
Aperture trim panel shown removed for clarity.

16. Use a small screwdriver to push on the roll pin:

^ Moving the spindle flange to the right [A].

^ Lower the spindle down / away from the casting [B].

CAUTION:
Use care when removing spring(s) to avoid damage.

NOTE:
If replacing only one casting, remove only the spring from the affected casting.

17. From outside the vehicle, carefully remove the locking slider springs from the roller blind casting arm at the rear of the Panoramic roof panel.

CAUTION:
Ensure the tube remains on the cable until the casting assembly is removed from the vehicle.

18. Remove the roller blind cable tube retaining fir tree clips from the casting(s) being replaced.

19. Release the white clip from the casting.

20. Mark the position of the rear blind track mounting screws to enable installation in the same location.

21. Remove the T25 Torx screws (SWB: 1; LWB: 2) from the rear blind track:

^ Remove the two T15 Torx screws from the roller blind casting to the front track.

^ Remove one T25 Torx screw from the roller blind casting.

^ If replacing both casting assemblies, mark the track and remove the screws from the other casting and rear blind track.

NOTE:
If replacing the rear blind (RH casting) on SWB vehicles, the RH rear grab handle must be removed for access.

22. Remove the electrical connector from the blind motor A:

^ Move the harness away from the blind casting assembly B (may remain clipped into the front blind track).

23. Once the Torx screws have been removed, pull the roller blind casting assembly (with the rear blind track attached) down and rearward to remove it from the vehicle.

24. Remove the rear blind track:

^ Remove the T15 Torx bolt.

^ Release the two dowels.

^ Release the rear blind track from the cables.

NOTE:
New casting assemblies are not threaded; threads will be Cut as the Torx bolt is installed.

25. Transfer the rear blind track onto the new casting assembly:

^ Position the track over the cables.

^ Locate on the two dowels.

^ Install the T15 Torx bolt; tighten to 3.5Nm (2.6lbf ft).

^ Reinstall the cable guide tube to the new casting assembly and secure the white clip.

NOTE:
Ensure the rear track is aligned with the alignment marks.

NOTE:
Ensure the dovetail on the cable is facing downwards.

26. Install the new casting assembly:

^ Ensure the drive cables are correctly routed into the front blind track.

^ Align the datum pegs on the casting into the holes in the front blind track.

^ Connect the blind drive motor electrical connector.

^ Install the two T15 Torx screws; tighten to 3.5Nm (2.6lbf ft).

^ Install the T25 Torx screws into the rear blind track / casting; tighten to 7Nm (5.2lbf ft).

^ Secure the white clip.

^ Secure the three cable guide fir tree clips.

27. If required, repeat steps 17 - 26 to the opposite side.

NOTE:
The front and rear Panoramic roof blind feet are installed to opposite sides of the vehicle The rear blind LH foot is installed to the LH side of the vehicle; the rear blind RH foot is installed to the RH side of the vehicle.

NOTE:
The roller blind drive cables move independently with the drive spindles removed.

28. Prior to installing the drive spindles, ensure the blind cable drive blocks are the same distance, (relative to each other) front-to-rear.

^ Install the blind feet on both sides; measure their position to ensure they are at the exact same position, front-to-rear, to ensure the blind is being pulled out evenly.

^ Align the blind LH foot dove tail notch onto the LH cable drive block; repeat for RH blind foot.

CAUTION:
The blind feet are 'handed' (LH / RH) and marked as such; ensure the blind feet are installed in the correct position Failure to follow this may result in damage to the vehicle.

NOTE The Panoramic roof front and rear blind feet are installed to opposite sides of the vehicle. The front blind LH foot is installed to the RH side of the vehicle, the front blind RH foot is installed to the LH side of the vehicle.

29. Install the RH blind foot: (rear shown, front similar)

^ Locate the blind foot dove tail onto the peg.

^ Press firmly into place (a click should be heard).

^ Using gentle pressure, make sure the foot is correctly located and cannot move (forward, backward, or sideways).

30. Repeat step 29 to the LH blind foot.

CAUTION:
Failure to correctly time the blind roller cables will cause the blind to be pulled out unevenly, leaving slack material and causing blind feet failure.

NOTE:
The LH and RH blind feet / drive cables must be the same distance front-to-rear.

NOTE:
You are moving one blind foot to match the other side.

31. After installing the blind feet measure the distance from the end of the track to the leading edge of the blind foot.

^ On the side that does not have the motor installed (i.e. RH side for the front blind or LH side for the rear blind) insert one end of the drive spindle into the drive flange on the cable and rotate the flange until the blind foot measures the same distance as the blind foot on the side with the motor.

^ Repeat steps 31 to the opposite side.

32. Install both drive spindles.

33. Repeat step 31; remove drive spindles and adjust as necessary.

34. Install spring(s).

CAUTION:
Ensure hands are clean prior to installing the roller blind.

NOTE:
Ensure the blind is installed with the retaining pin pointing down.

NOTE:
In the event the blind tension is released, refer to SSM45450 New Jaguar XJ Panoramic Roof Blind Re tensioning Procedure, to re4ension the blind.

35. Keeping a firm grip on the blind, install the roller blind flat end first into the casting assemblies:

^ Jiggle and remove the retaining pin.

^ Once the dowel (round) end is installed into the casting assembly, the blind will not unwind.

CAUTION:
If the blind feet are incorrectly oriented, the locking tabs will break when the roller blind draw bar is rotated on installation.

NOTE:
Glass panel removed for clarity.

36. Position the blind for installation:

^ Pull out the blind and rotate to the position shown [A].
^ Position the blind above the clip as shown [B].

CAUTION:
Excessive force will cause the blind feet to break.

NOTE:
Do not allow blind spring tension to push inward against the blind feet when installing the roller blind draw bar onto the blind feet.

NOTE:
The blind foot trough must remain in line with the draw bar channel bead.

37. Secure the blind to the blind feet.

^ Locate the blind into the blind foot.

^ Apply gentle pressure

^ Rotate the blind down to locate onto the blind feet.

38. Repeat step 35-37 to opposite blind.

39. Continue to next appropriate Repair Procedure.
