Rear Disc Brake: Overview
Rear Disc Brake
OVERVIEW
The caliper is mounted within a fixed carrier that is secured to the rear wheel knuckle with two bolts. The brake calipers on the supercharged vehicle are painted and also include a logo badge, which must be removed in order to renew the brake pads.
Each inboard brake pad is installed with a wire type anti-rattle spring.
Also incorporated into each rear brake caliper carrier is the parking brake mechanism. For additional information refer to 206-05 Parking Brake and Actuation.
After any work on the rear brakes, the parking brake must be re-calibrated. For additional information refer to 206-05 Parking Brake and Actuation.
Base Brakes - 3.0L V6 Petrol and 4.2L V8 - Vehicles from 2010MY
The base rear braking system used on 3.0L V6 and 4.2L V8 petrol vehicles features 326 mm (12.83 in.) diameter x 20 mm (0.79 in.) thick ventilated brake discs and aluminum, single piston, sliding calipers which are the same as used on the standard brakes.
The base brakes do not have brake wear sensors fitted.
Standard Brakes - 5.0L V8 Naturally Aspirated and 3.0L V6 Diesel - Vehicles from 2010MY
The standard rear braking system used on 5.0L V8 naturally aspirated petrol and 3.0L V6 diesel vehicles features 326 mm (12.83 in.) diameter x 20 mm (0.79 in.) thick ventilated brake discs and aluminum, single piston, sliding calipers which are the same as used on the standard brakes.
The brake disc is manufactured from cast iron. The brake disc is retained on the wheel hub by two washers and the wheel nuts.
The inboard brake pad of the RH (right-hand) brake caliper is fitted with a brake pad wear sensor.
NOTE:
New pad wear sensor leads need to be fitted whenever the brake pads are changed irrespective of the brake pad warning sensor being triggered.
Performance Brakes - 5.0L Supercharger - Vehicles From 2010MY
The performance rear braking system on 5.0L V8 SC (supercharger) vehicles features 376 mm (14.8 in.) diameter x 26 mm (1.02 in.) thick ventilated brake discs with aluminum, single piston, sliding calipers.
The brake disc is manufactured from cast iron. The disc is retained on the wheel hub by two washers and the wheel nuts.
The inboard brake pad of the RH (right-hand) brake caliper is fitted with a brake pad wear sensor.
NOTE:
New pad wear sensor leads need to be fitted whenever the brake pads are changed irrespective of the brake pad warning sensor being triggered.
