Roof Opening Panel 'Bounces Back' When Closing - Repair Procedure
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE
CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation:
While closing the roof opening panel, the panel may bounce back at approximately two-thirds closed as it passes over the wind deflector. This failure to close may be caused by the spring rates of the wind deflector springs being too high, which activates the anti-trap feature of the roof opening panel.
Action:
In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to install new roof opening panel wind deflector springs (VIN R00019 - R22000) and carry out a roof opening panel motor synchronization procedure (VIN R00019 - R31206).
PARTS
Tools:
Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) for any special tools required.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
REPLACE ROOF OPENING PANEL WIND DEFLECTOR SPRINGS (VIN R00019 - R22000)
1. Fully open the roof opening panel.
NOTE:
Remove one Torx screw at a time as the wind deflector is under tension.
2. Remove the four Torx screws from the wind deflector net retainer. (Figure 1)
CAUTION:
Ensure the wind deflector springs do not scratch the roof.
3. Lift the wind deflector assembly, rotating rearwards to disengage the springs. (Figure 2)
4. Discard the springs from the deflector arms and guide rails.
CAUTION:
Ensure rear of spring is positively located into the guide rail.
5. Install new springs (C2Z 11574) to the wind deflector arms and locate in the guide rails. (Figure 3)
6. Locate wind deflector net retainer onto the datum pin. (Figure 4)
7. Using a magnetic tool, install the two innermost Torx screws:
^ Tighten the Torx screws to 2 Nm +/- 0.2 Nm (1.5 lbf ft +/- 0.15 lbf ft). (Figure 4)
8. Pull wind deflector net taut at both ends.
9. Install the two outermost Torx screws.
^ Tighten the Torx screws to 2 Nm +/- 0.2 Nm (1.5 lbf ft +/- 0.15 lbf ft). (Figure 5)
10. Ensure wind deflector net is not wavy.
11. Fully close the roof opening panel.
ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR SYNCHRONIZATION (VIN R00019 - R31206)
CAUTION:
Ensure the parking brake is engaged while engine is running.
1. Start engine.
2. Ensure all electrical components are switched off.
3. Raise engine speed to 1,500 RPM.
NOTE:
Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows:
GTR Home> NAS > XF > Service Information > 2009 > Workshop Manuals > 501: Body and Paint> 501-17: Roof Opening Panel
4. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) Section 501-17: Roof Opening Panel (76.82.48) to perform the Roof Opening Panel Motor Synchronization procedure.
5. Verify correct roof opening panel operation.
6. Switch engine "off".
