Pinpoint Test A


A: THE ENGINE DOES NOT CRANK
CHECK THE BATTERY
1. Check the battery.
^ Is the battery OK?
Yes Refer to CHECK THE STARTER RELAY
No INSTALL a new battery. TEST the system for normal operation.

CHECK THE STARTER RELAY
1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
^ Does the starter relay make an audible click?
Yes Refer to CHECK THE STARTER FOR BATTERY VOLTAGE
Refer to CHECK FOR IGNITION VOLTAGE TO STARTER RELAY

THE STARTER FOR BATTERY VOLTAGE
1. Measure the voltage between the starter connector 138 (R) and ground.
^ Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Refer to CHECK THE STARTER GROUND
No Repair the starter motor permanent live supply circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

CHECK THE STARTER GROUND
1. Measure the resistance between starter outer casing and ground.
^ Is the resistance less than 2 Ohm?
Yes Refer to CHECK THE STARTER SWITCH LIVE
No REPAIR starter ground cable or connections. TEST the system for normal operation

CHECK THE STARTER SWITCH LIVE
1. While ignition switch is in the RUN position measure the voltage between starter connector EC64 (WR) and ground.
^ Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes INSTALL a new starter motor. TEST the system for normal operation.
No Refer to CHECK THE PERMANENT LIVE VOLTAGE TO STARTER RELAY

CHECK THE PERMANENT LIVE VOLTAGE TO STARTER RELAY
1. Remove the starter relay. Measure the voltage between connector 3 and ground.
^ Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes REPAIR starter switch live circuit from the starter relay to the starter. TEST the system for normal operation.
No CHECK fuse 13 (25A) in the front PD13. If fuse OK REPAIR starter relay permanent live supply circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

CHECK FOR IGNITION VOLTAGE TO STARTER RELAY
1. Remove the starter relay. Measure the voltage between connector 1 and ground.
^ Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Refer to CHECK GROUND SUPPLY TO STARTER RELAY
No Refer to CHECK FUSE 1 IN THE PRIMARY JUNCTION BOX

CHECK GROUND SUPPLY TO STARTER RELAY
1. Measure the resistance between starter relay connector 2 and ground.
^ Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new starter relay.
No Refer to CHECK GROUND SUPPLY CIRCUIT

CHECK GROUND SUPPLY CIRCUIT
1. Measure the resistance between starter relay connector 2 and ECM electrical connector PH pin 41 (GO)
^ Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes DIAGNOSE the anti-theft system.
No REPAIR the ground circuit between starter relay and ECM.

CHECK FUSE 1 IN THE PRIMARY JUNCTION BOX
1. Check the fuse.
^ Is the fuse OK?
Yes Refer to CHECK FOR CONTINUITY BETWEEN PRIMARY JUNCTION FUSE BOX AND ECM
No Refer to CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND

CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND
1. Measure the resistance between starter relay connector 1 and ground.
^ Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new fuse.
No REPAIR short to ground between primary junction box and starter relay. TEST system for normal operation.

CHECK FOR CONTINUITY BETWEEN PRIMARY JUNCTION FUSE BOX AND ECM
1. Disconnect primary junction fuse box electrical connector EC7 and power train control module electrical connector P11.
2. Check the resistance between EC7 pin 7(Y) and PH pin 7(GO).
^ Is the resistance less the 5 ohms?
Yes
No REPAIR the circuit between the primary junction fuse box and the power train control module. TEST system for normal operation.

CHECK FUSE 15 IN THE PRIMARY JUNCTION FUSE BOX
1. Check the fuse.
^ Is the fuse OK?
Yes
No

CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND
1. Disconnect the primary junction fuse box electrical connector CA2 and Transmission Control Module (TCM) G132.
2. Measure the resistance primary junction fuse box electrical connector CR42 pin 8 (GO) and ground.
^ Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new fuse.
No REPAIR short to ground between primary junction fuse box and TCM. INSTALL a new fuse. TEST system for normal operation.

CHECK FOR IGNITION VOLTAGE AT TCM
1. Connect the primary junction fuse box electrical connector CR42.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
3. Measure the voltage between TCM electrical connector G132 pin 9 (GO) and ground.
^ Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
No REPAIR the circuit between TCM and primary junction fuse box. TEST system for normal operation.

CHECK FOR CONTINUITY BETWEEN TCM ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR GB2 AND ECM ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR Pl1
1. Check the resistance between G132 pin 10 (GR) and PI 1 pin 31 (GR).
^ Is the resistance less the 5 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new ECM. For additional information refer to Dealer Technical Support. TEST the system for normal operation. If fault is repeated INSTALL a new TCM.
No REPAIR the circuit between TCM and primary junction fuse box. TEST system for normal operation.
