Roof Opening (Moonroof) Panel Glass Shattering - Panel Glass Incorrectly Manufactured - Recall Action R722

Issue:

The roof opening panel (moonroof) glass installed on specific 2006 MY XJ range vehicles listed in this bulletin has been incorrectly manufactured. The roof opening panel assembly incorporates a reinforcement bar which has been incorrectly assembled in such a way that the bar may contact the glass in the assembly and act as a stress raiser.

It is possible that the roof opening panel glass may shatter on severe road impact, door closure, or when operated.

Jaguar has made the decision to Recall all affected vehicles for the roof opening panel glass to be renewed.

A number of vehicles have already been inspected/repaired in conjunction with the quarantine at the ports and dealers. Any vehicle that has been inspected/repaired as a result of the Quarantine Notice (R722) has been removed from this Recall Action. DDW will show only those vehicles that still need to have this recall performed.

Note:
Federal law requires dealers to complete any outstanding safety recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $5,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.

Jaguar will be writing to all owners of affected vehicles requesting them to contact their nearest dealer, as soon as possible, to arrange for the roof opening panel glass to be renewed.

Action:

At the time of confirming an appointment for vehicle repair, please ensure that all outstanding Service Actions are identified to ensure the correct parts are available and adequate workshop time is allocated for all repairs to be completed at one visit.

Before performing this Service Action, verify that the vehicle is on the affected VIN list. Then check DDW to confirm the action is still open on the vehicle in question.

For the workshop procedure please refer to Global Technical Reference (GTR) Workshop Manual, section 501-17 Roof Opening Glass Panel. Refer to the Roof Opening Panel Alignment section in addition to the Remove and Install procedure.

Note:
Do not discard the glass panel retaining screws during removal, since these are required for installation of the new glass panel.
