Installation Of Latch For Liftgate Glass - Lubricate Replacement Latches - Lubrication Method
Issue:
New liftgate glass latches that are supplied from Unipart are not subjected to the same lubricating process that is carried out on production vehicles.
Action:
To add lubrication to the new liftgate glass latch, follow the workshop procedure outlined below.
WORKSHOP PROCEDURE
1. Open liftgate glass.
2. Apply a bead of suitable grease between the liftgate glass latch rotor and casing, ensuring the grease runs each side of the rotor (see Fig. 1). Apply a bead of suitable grease inside casing between the liftgate glass latch rotor and latch pawl (Illustration 1).
3. Close liftgate glass.
4. Open and close the liftgate glass at least twenty times, to ensure that the moving parts are fully coated with grease, and a smooth liftgate glass latch operation is achieved.
Note:
When operating the liftgate glass latch mechanism in quick succession there is a possibility that the thermal cut-out will render the latch mechanism inoperative. If this occurs, it will be necessary to wait until the temperature has reduced to a satisfactory level when the latch will become operative again.
5. Open liftgate glass.
6. Using a suitable cloth, remove visible grease from the liftgate glass latch.
7. Close liftgate glass.
