Camber and Caster Adjustment



Camber and Caster Adjustment

NOTE: The camber and caster adjustment for the LH side is shown. The procedure for adjusting the RH side is similar.

NOTE: This procedure must be carried out using a 4-post ramp.

All vehicles
1. Raise and support the vehicle.

Vehicles without camber and caster adjustment cam bolts





2. Detach and reposition the steering gear.





3. Raise and support the front end of the vehicle on the No. 2 crossmember.
^ Position two 4 in. x 4 in. pieces of wood between the No. 2 crossmember and the idling device.





4. Remove and discard the lower arm front lock nut and retaining bolt.





5. Install a caster adjustment cam bolt and a new lock nut.
^ Install the bolt from the rear.
^ Install the bolt with the cam lobe down.
^ The cam must be seated between the cam guides on the No. 1 crossmember.





6. Remove and discard the lower arm rear lock nut and retaining bolt.





7. Install a camber adjustment cam bolt and a new lock nut.
^ Install the bolt from the rear.
^ Install the bolt with the cam lobe down.
^ The cam must be seated in the groove in the No. 2 crossmember.
8. Lower the front end of the vehicle.





9. Attach the steering gear.
^ Tighten to 103 Nm.

All vehicles
10. Check the camber and caster settings. Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions.

Vehicles requiring caster adjustment





11. Slacken the lower arm front lock nut.
12. Rotate the caster adjustment cam bolt to adjust the caster.





13. Re-check the caster settings. Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions. Re-adjust as necessary.

14. NOTE: Make sure the caster adjustment cam bolt does not rotate.

Tighten the caster adjustment cam bolt lock nut.
^ Tighten to 175 Nm.

Vehicles requiring camber adjustment





15. NOTE: Adjustments to the camber will affect the toe settings. Therefore, the camber and toe may need to be adjusted at the same time to achieve the correct settings.

NOTE: Both the LH and RH toe need to be adjusted when adjusting the camber.

Slacken the tie-rod end lock nut and remove the steering gear boot clamp.
^ Clean and lubricate the lock nut and tie-rod threads.





16. NOTE: Do not allow the steering gear boot to twist when the tie-rod is rotated.

Rotate the tie-rod to adjust the toe.





17. Slacken the lower arm rear lock nut.

18. NOTE: To aid in accurate camber and toe settings, support the lower arm by hand while rotating the camber adjustment cam bolt.

Rotate the camber adjustment cam bolt to adjust the camber.





19. Re-check the camber and toe settings. Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions. Re-adjust as necessary.





20. NOTE: Make sure the camber adjustment cam bolt does not rotate.

Tighten the camber adjustment cam bolt lock nut.
^ Tighten to 175 Nm.

21. NOTE: Make sure the tie-rod does not rotate.

Tighten the tie-rod end lock nut and install the steering gear boot clamp.

All vehicles
22. Lower the vehicle.
