Engine Removal



Removal

All vehicles
1. Remove the intake manifold.
2. Remove the air cleaner. For additional information, refer to Intake Air Distribution and Filtering.





3. Remove the engine cover.
4. Remove the cooling module.
5. Remove the starter motor.
6. Drain the engine oil.

Vehicles With Manual Transmission





7. Disconnect both pre-catalytic converter oxygen sensors (left-hand shown, right-hand similar).





8. Disconnect both post-catalytic converter oxygen sensors (left-hand shown, right-hand similar).





9. Remove the support bracket.





10. Detach both rear muffler exhaust hanger insulators (right-hand shown, left-hand similar).

11. NOTE: Support the exhaust system.





Detach both three way catalytic converters (right-hand shown, left-hand similar).





12. Remove the exhaust system.
Detach the center exhaust hanger insulators.
Remove the exhaust system.

13. Remove the manual transmission.

Vehicles With Automatic Transmission
14. Remove the automatic transmission.





15. Detach the automatic transmission oil cooler tubes bracket.





16. Detach the automatic transmission wiring harness.

All vehicles





17. Remove the generator splash shield.





18. Detach the generator positive cable protective cover.





19. Remove the generator positive cable nut.





20. Detach the power steering tube bracket.
21. Lower the vehicle.
22. Disconnect the fuel supply spring lock coupling.





23. Remove the oil level indicator.





24. Remove the PCV valve tube.





25. Remove the engine breather tube assembly.





26. Detach the coolant by-pass tube assembly.





27. Displace the purge line tube.





28. Displace the EGR valve vacuum hose.





29. Detach the coolant hose.





30. Remove the coolant hose assembly.





31. Detach the coolant hose.





32. Detach the power steering hose.





33. Detach the engine wiring harness.





34. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors. Right-Hand Drive Vehicles Only
35. Raise the vehicle.





36. Disconnect the powertrain control module electrical connector.

Left-Hand Drive Vehicles Only
37. Remove the powertrain control module. For additional information, refer to Electronic Engine Controls.
38. Raise the vehicle.

All Vehicles

39. NOTE: Remove and discard the 'O' ring seals.





Detach the air conditioning compressor supply and return tubes.





40. Detach the power steering tube. Remove the power steering tube bracket retaining bolt. Detach the power steering tube.





41. Remove the lower engine mount retaining nuts (left-hand shown, right-hand similar).
42. Lower the vehicle.





43. Remove the upper engine mount retaining nuts (left-hand shown, right-hand similar).





44. Remove the engine assembly,
Using the special tools, install a suitable floor crane.
