Introduction/Diagnostics General/Specific Changes
INTRODUCTIONPDU 1055 is designed to test and diagnose faults in 1998 MY V8 Sedan Range vehicles. It is an addition to previous PDU software issues.
PDU 1055 operates with the Sedan Range Controller Area Network (CAN), Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP) and ISO communications systems installed in the vehicle. All three systems are also installed in the XK8. When used on V8 vehicles, the software requires the use of the Multi-Protocol Adapter (MPA). The MPA was originally introduced with PDU 1040 for the XK8, to allow the PDU to transmit and receive messages from electronic control modules on all three communications systems. Further information on the MPA is printed in the PDU User Guide.
DIAGNOSTICS GENERAL
The down to wire diagnostics are little changed. The changes from previous software issues result from the integration of some vehicle systems. The PDU is now able to communicate with several control modules simultaneously, particularly when testing body systems, which depend on inputs and outputs from more than one module.
The degree to which features are shared between modules no longer permits multiple entry points in the test structure. For example, head lamps can only be tested by selecting "Lighting", whereas previously it was possible to test them via the "security head lamp convenience" feature. From now on it is only be possible to test the security side of the vehicle.
SPECIFIC CHANGES
Network integrity Test
The network integrity test introduced with PDU 1040 is now an option for all non-guided diagnostic sessions. The test uses the MPA to ensure that the CAN and SCP communications networks transfer messages correctly. On the CAN network, the MPA listens to the messages to ensure that the control modules are talking to one another. The SCP network is checked by the MPA asking each of the control modules in turn for their identifiers. Finally, the link between the two networks is checked by sending an MPH speed signal from one to the other. All tests are performed automatically. If any network falls, the PDU instructs the operator to run the appropriate diagnostic test.
