1. Vacuum actuator rotates mechanical guard
2. Sensor inputs mechanical guard position to ECM
3. ECM operates dc motor (to position throttle valve)
4. Sensor inputs throttle valve position to ECM
5. Clearance maintained between mechanical guard & throttle valve
6. Input shaft at idle position (disengaged from mechanical guard)
7. Direction of spring force
