Maintenance Check
ISSUE:
The supercharger lubricating oil level must be checked as a routine maintenance item, every 30,000 miles (48,000 km).
ACTION:
Check the supercharger oil level every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) as follows:
CHECKING SUPERCHARGER OIL LEVEL
WARNING!
Do not remove the filler plug when the engine is hot, since hot oil under pressure can spray out uncontrollably.
Cover the plug with a cloth to catch any oil which may escape as the filler plug is loosened, even on a cool or cold engine.
Wear protective goggles and gloves during this operation. In the event of any mishap in spite of the above precautions, ensure that any oil that may come into contact with the face or hands is not ingested, and that the spillage is treated as described on the oil container, part no. JLM 12290.
1. Allow the engine to cool to ambient temperature.
2. Use a 3/16 in Allen wrench to remove the oil filler plug, located at the front of the supercharger (Illustration 1). The plug has an 0-ring attached to prevent possible leakage. Carefully remove the plug to prevent damage to the seal that could result in leaks.
3. The oil level should be level with the bottom of the screw thread in the filler opening.
WARNING!
Carefully read and understand the Caution labels on the Jaguar Synthetic Supercharger fluid bottle regarding safe use before opening.
4. Add oil if needed, and carefully insert the O-ring into the opening and screw in the plug. Torque the filler plug to 5.1 - 10.3 lb ft (7 - 14 Nm).
