Speakers - Alternator Whine

86-158

Incorrect Speaker Mapping, Alternator
Whine - Premium Sound System -
DIN Plug Damage

MODEL
Sedan Range 1995 MY

DATE 7/95

ISSUE:

When reconnecting the grey 5-pin DIN plug at the rear of the premium sound
system radio, it is possible to force the connectors together improperly. The connector can be accidentally assembled 180 degrees out of alignment due to the thin diameter of the male pins.

If this occurs, the shield wire is left open, allowing alternator whine to be heard through the speakers. In addition, the outputs leading to the Harmon-Kardon amplifier are reversed causing reversed operation of the fader and balance controls.

The male pins may also be damaged beyond repair.

ACTION:

When reconnecting the 5-pin DIN connector, check that the locating tab is
positioned at the bottom, Illustration 1.
