ISSUE:

Matte black paint may be missing from the blackout area of the rocker panels (lower sill flanges) following "KATS removal on 1995 MY Sedan Range vehicles from VIN 720001 - 727823. The high pressure cold water spray used to wash off the "KATS Remover solution may dislodge sections of the matte black paint in rocker panel area.

ACTION:





Following "KATS" removal on Sedan Range vehicles within the VIN range above, inspect the rocker panel blackout areas (Illustration 1). If matte black paint is missing or damaged, perform the following procedure.

NOTE:
Repairs should be performed during dealer PDI.

BLACKOUT AREA REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Thoroughly wash the area with a paint preparation solvent

2. Mask and repaint with an air drying matte black paint

Warranty summary codes have been assigned to this service action in order to simplify claim submission. The dealership will be reimbursed the labor time allowance and $1.50 for shop supplies.

DCS Dealers

Submit claims using the appropriate summary code for the vehicle model and work performed. Follow standard campaign submission procedures.

Non-DCS Dealers

Submit claims on the Recall Campaign Summary form W-25. Enter the appropriate summary code for the vehicle model and work performed in the Repair Code column. Do not use the W-1 warranty claim form.
