A new oil pump (EBC 3163) has been introduced which supersedes the previous oil pump.
The new oil pump may be difficult to turn by hand. This does not mean that the pump is faulty.
ACTION:
Refer to the XJS Service Manual for disassembly and reassembly procedures.
When a new pump is installed on an engine prior to engine number 8S80613SA, an adapter collar and shorter bolts must be used.
If the pump is difficult to turn by hand, pour 10 cc of engine oil into the suction port and then turn the pump.
When installing a new pump on an engine prior to number 8S80613SA, use the following procedure:
^ Hold the pump against the mounting bosses on the engine block and check for interference at the areas shaded in Figure 1.
CAUTION:
Wear eye protection during the following operation.
^ If there is interference, use a rotary file to remove material from the block until the pump sits flat against the mounting bosses. Be careful not to damage the pump mounting bosses, and bearing or gasket surfaces.
^ Install pump using the adaptor collar and four shorter pump bolts.
