Sandwich Plate
NOTE: To remove the sandwich plate assembly, the front suspension unit must be displaced for access.Oil Pan Bolts:
- Remove the sump plug (1) and drain the oil into a suitable container.
- Remove the sump pan screws and serrated washers (2).
- Note the position of the oil cooler pipe clip. Lower the sump.
Oil Line Fittings:
- Remove the clip on the oil cooler pipe (1).
- Disconnect the suction (2) and delivery (3) pipe unions from the elbow and delivery pipe.

- Remove the four screws/serrated washers securing the elbow to the sandwich plate (2).
- Carefully break the seal and draw the elbow downwards until the coupling tube is clear.
- Release the delivery pipe clips and stay.
- Cut the vent pipe hose to sandwich plate spigot securing clip.
- Remove the sandwich plate securing screws and washers, retrieve the crankshaft angle indicator from the two front screws (1).
NOTE: Several different length screws are used, take careful note of their locations.
- Remove the baffle plate screws.
- Remove the bypass housing securing screws.
- Remove the bypass valve assembly from the housing, clean and examine the components, replace as necessary.
- Thoroughly clean all mating faces.
- Renew the O-rings at the bypass valve/spigot. Use clean oil to lubricate the O-ring seals.
- Refit the by-pass valve to the sandwich replacement plate.
- Refit the baffle plate
- Fit the sandwich plate to the crankcase block. Refit the suction elbow.
- Refit the suction and delivery pipes.
- Refit the sump.
- Refit the front suspension.
- Refit the sump plug, using a new washer and fill the engine with oil.

Baffle plate to crankcase 18-22 Nm
Oil cooler pipes 54-6O Nm
Sandwich plate to block 18-22 Nm
Sump drain plug 61-75 Nm
Sump set screws 18-22 Nm
Elbow to sandwich plate 14-18 Nm
