System Operation & Warning Information
SYSTEM OPERATION:The system is actuated when both doors are closed and the ignition is switched to position II.
The operation is as follows:
^ Both belts will move from the forward position back along the track and come to rest when the belt has positioned itself across the front seat occupants chests. The manual lap belt should then be buckled in place.
^ The diagonal belt travels to an unrestrained position when either the ignition is turned to position 1 (OFF), or the adjacent door is opened.
^ The right belt deploys even if the seat is unoccupied. This prevents the right belt from obstructing the driver's view of the right hand door mirror.
^ If reverse gear is selected, the reverse inhibit relay is energized to prevent the driver's diagonal belt from traveling to the unrestrained position (if the driver's door is opened). This will prevent the driver from being caught by the moving belt if he or she wishes to lean out the door while backing up.
^ The belt system is also controlled by the inertia switch. If the inertia switch is tripped with the ignition "ON", no movement of the passive belt will occur. In addition, the doors will be unlocked.
^ In the event of an emergency, the buckle at the end of the belt may be released by operating the red button labeled "PRESS". The belt must be reconnected before the vehicle is driven again.
^ If the system fails to deploy, two emergency anchor adaptors with protective covers are provided. These are stored in the glove box and allow temporary use of the vehicle. The adaptors are marked RH TOP and LH TOP. Insert the correct adaptor into the trim finisher channel (guide rail) on the "B" post. Slide the adaptor down until it engages with the assembly anchor at the end of the runner rail. Release the diagonal seat belt buckle from the runner/anchor assembly by operating the red "PRESS" button. Manually attach the buckle to the emergency anchor adaptor. Install the protective cover to the exposed runner/adaptor assembly.
