SECTION: 12
No: 3
Model: XJ6 3.6 Date: DECEMBER, 1987
KEY POINTS: INCORRECTLY MANUFACTURED
PISTONS
A number of pistons have been found to be incorrectly stamped during manufacture. The identification "FRONT" has been stamped at the rear of the piston resulting in incorrect fitting during engine assembly. The condition causes piston noise when cold.
To check a piston for correct stamping, hold it upright with the word FRONT towards you. The two cast arrows on the inside of the piston skirt should be on the left side as illustrated.
Correction has been assured from Engine No. 9D 121113.
