Fog Lamps - Operate When High Beams Selected

87jaguar02

HIGH BEAM/FOG LAMP OPERATION
SECTION 86 No. 2
Model: XJ-S Date: January, 1987
KEY POINTS: NON-U.S. SPECIFICATION LIGHTING HARNESS RECTIFICATION
The possibility may exist that some 1987 XJ-S vehicles may be equipped with European specification lighting harnesses which would enable the fog lamps to operate with high beam headlamps. If this situation occurs, the rectification procedure is as follows:

1. Open hood and carefully lift the fuse box bracket located at the left-hand fender over the side channel. Gently bend bracket toward engine.

2. Remove three screws securing the left-hand forward harness mounting clips to the inner fender rearward of the fuse box.

3. Disconnect cruise control brake safety switch and ease harness forward three to four inches.

4. Remove harness covering located immediately forward of the fender stabilizer bar bracket and locate two line splices.

5. Remove insulation from blue cable line splice and separate the three wires.

6. With fog lamps switched to the "ON" position, connect test lamp to each wire and identify live wire.

7. Remove insulation from blue-red wire line splice and solder the live blue cable to the three blue-red cables.
8. Insulate with heat shrink.

9. Re-splice remaining two blue wires together and insulate with heat shrink.
10. Check system for correct operation.

11. Re-wrap harness and remake all connections.

12. Refit fuse box bracket.
