Speedometer Identification

There were two types of speedometers available for the 1982 model year XJ6 and Vanden Plas series. One is the conventional cable-driven analog style. The other is an electronic motor-driven analog type.

The mechanical cable-driven type can be identified by the "SN" prefix at the beginning of the identification number at the bottom of the speedometer face. This type was fitted up to VIN 331346.

The electronic motor-driven style has "ES" as a identification number prefix. It is also located at the bottom of the speedometer face. This type was fitted from VIN 331346.
