Service Procedure - Part 1
CAUTION:Use appropriate covers to protect upholstery carpet trim door panels etc. when performing this procedure.
1. Remove the driver seat from the vehicle as follows:
a. Write down radio station pre-sets.
b. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
c. Remove the headrest from the seatback.
d. Adjust the seat slide position to about the middle of travel.
e. Adjust the steering wheel tilt to the highest position.
f. Refer to section SE in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for seat removal information.
WARNING:
Before disconnecting any SRS connectors make sure to:
^ Disconnect both battery cables (negative cable first) and
^ Wait for at least 3 minutes.
^ DO NOT drop, tilt or bump the side air bag module installed in the seatback. Always handle it with care.
g. After the seat is removed place it in a clean working area.
Refer to seat "exploded view" on pages 30 and 31 as needed while performing this procedure. If you pay close attention to the disassembly of the seat parts it will be easier to reassemble.
2. From under the seat disconnect the 3 seat cloth straps and fold the seat cloth out of the way.
3. If equipped remove the seat cushion rear finisher; 2 screws and 2 clips shown in Figure 2.
NOTE:
This finisher is on climate controlled seats only.
4. Remove the right side-finisher (seat cushion finisher B).
a. Remove the 2 screws shown in Figure 3.
b. Then slide the finisher UP to remove it.
5. Remove the rear screw from the left side-finisher (seat cushion outer finisher).
6. Remove the seat cushion front finisher.
^ There are 2 snap-in clips in the locations shown in Figure 5.
Reach behind the finisher with pliers and squeeze the tabs on the clips to release them.
7. Remove the seat sliding and reclining knobs.
^ Use a plastic trim tool to pull them straight OFF.
NOTE:
Plastic "Trim Tool Set" J-46534 (an "essential tool") is available from TECH-MATE.
8. There is a snap-in clip at the front of the left side-finisher as shown in Figure 6. Reach behind the finisher with pliers and squeeze the tabs on the clip to release it.
9. Lift the left side-finisher off of the rear hook then pull it completely off.
10. Disconnect the lumbar switch connector.
11. From the back of the seat (left side) unhook the fabric hook and loop fastener (cloth strap) shown in Figure 8.
12. From the back of the seat (left side) unhook the fabric hook and loop fastener shown in Figure 9.
13. From under the seat unhook the rear seat cushion hook.
14. Remove the seatback board.
a. Snap loose the clips.
b. Slide the back board DOWN to remove it.
NOTE:
Use new clips for reassembly.
15. From the left side of the seat remove the 5 side air bag harness support clips shown in Figure 12.
16. Unhook the left side seat cushion hook.
17. Unhook the right side and front seat cushion hooks.
18. Remove the seat cushion.
19. Remove the 4 seat cushion frame nuts shown in Figure 15.
20. Lift the seat cushion frame and use string to hold it UP as shown in Figure 16.
NOTE:
Use cloth to protect the seat material.
21. Remove the seat cushion frame support bar.
22. Swap the seat belt buckle to the new seat adjuster assembly.
a. Disconnect the belt buckle connector.
b. Remove the belt buckle bolt.
c. Install the buckle and bolt on the new seat adjuster assembly.
Bolt torque: 49 N.m (5.0 Kg-m, 36 ft-lb)
23. Disconnect all of the connectors and harness mounting clips in Figure 19.
NOTE:
If you pay close attention to the harness routing and connections it will make it easier to reinstall.
24. Push the harness towards the back of the seat.
25. Remove the string and set the seat cushion frame back in place.
26. Unhook the plastic seatback trim hooks; both sides and bottom.
27. If equipped; disconnect the seat climate control connector.
28. Remove harness mounting clips.
29. If equipped with seat climate control; pull the harness from behind the air duct.
30. Remove screw and clips.
31. Remove 4 seatback bolts; 2 on each side.
CAUTION:
At this point you are ready to remove the seat back but the seat reclining motor is still electrically connected.
32. Carefully lift the seatback until you can see the reclining motor.
33. Disconnect the 2 reclining motor connectors.
34. Completely remove the seat back and set it in a clean area.
35. Remove the 6 plastic trim parts shown in Figure 27.
^ If you pay close attention to the position of these trim parts they will be easier to reinstall.
^ Remove the necessary screws.
^ Set these trim pieces aside for now.
36. Remove the seat cushion frame.
37. Swap the reclining motor to the new seat adjuster assembly.
a. Remove the 2 bolts.
b. Remove the reclining motor.
c. Install the reclining motor on the new seat adjuster assembly.
^ Use new bolts.
^ Bolt torque: 9.5 N.m (1.0 Kg-m, 7.0 ft.lb)
NOTE:
There is no need to set a specific position of the motor or the recliner.
38. Remove the seat control unit; 2 bolts. Set the control unit aside for now.
39. Remove the seat control switch; 2 screws. Set the switch aside for now.
40. Swap the slide motor to the new seat adjuster assembly.
a. Remove both cable covers; reach under to release the clips.
b. Remove 2 bolts.
c. Lift the motor and pull out the cable ends.
d. Install the slide motor in the new seat adjuster assembly in reverse order.
^ Use new cable covers.
^ Use new bolts.
^ Bolt torque: 9.5 N.m (1.0 Kg-m, 7.0 ft.lb)
NOTE:
There is no need to set a specific position of the motor or the slides. The slides were set to equal distance at the factory.
