SERVICE INFORMATION
^ This bulletin contains new product service information and tips for the 2006 M.
^ See the information starting below for details.
Playing DVD-Audio Discs in Vehicles Equipped with Bose Studio Surround
If a vehicle is equipped with the Bose Studio Surround System, DVD-Audio discs can be played in the DVD player (located in the center console under the armrest).
Some DVD-Audio discs may experience a "menu lock-up" when the last song of the disc has finished playing.
^ This lock-up" may occur because access to the DVD menu on the front screen is not allowed unless the vehicle is stopped and the parking brake is applied.
^ To resume playing a DVD-Audio disc if the above lock-up" occurs:
1. Eject the DVD,
2. Re-insert the DVD,
3. Wait for the disc to start playing,
4. Push the CAT/RPT" button to change the repeat mode from "1 DISC RPT" to "1 GRP RPT."
NOTE:
Any time a DVD is inserted, the system defaults back to "1 DISC RPT."
Intelligent Key (I-Key)
^ If the I-Key has a dead battery the engine can still be started by inserting the I-Key into the In-Dash Key Port located to the left of the steering column (see Figure 1).
^ The mechanical emergency key can be used to open the doors and trunk.
^ For information on how to register the Intelligent Key NATS Key and Steering Lock Unit please refer to ITB05-007.
Window Operation and Initialization
If the windows will not operate in the Auto-Mode and any of the following conditions have occurred the windows should be initialized.
^ Battery cable is disconnected
^ Power window switch connector is disconnected
^ Power window regulator is replaced
^ Power window motor is replaced
^ Window glass is removed
^ Window glass run rubber is replaced
^ Power window fuse is blown
Window Initialization Procedure
1. Turn the Ignition switch "ON".
2. Open the window more than halfway using manual-switch (NOT Auto-Mode) operation.
NOTE:
If the window is already open more than halfway go to step 3.
3. Close the window using the manual-switch operation and hold the switch UP for 3 to 4 seconds after the glass reaches the fully closed position.
4. Confirm the window you are working on is operating properly.
5. Then confirm all other windows are operating properly.
Sunroof
If the sunroof does not operate properly and any of the following conditions have occurred the sunroof should be initialized.
^ Battery cable is disconnected
^ Sunroof motor is replaced
^ Sunroof anti pinch function is activated for more than 5 seconds continuously
^ Sunroof auto-open and auto-close function does not operate
Sunroof Initialization Procedure
1. Fully close the sunroof. If necessary press the Close switch several times until the roof is completely closed.
2. Press and hold the Close switch for 3 to 4 seconds.
3. Confirm the automatic operation of the sunroof works properly.
Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)
The Adaptive Front Lighting System directs the headlamps to provide for best road illumination. It uses vehicle speed and steering wheel angle inputs. Please see the details below.
NOTE:
During operation the left hand (driver side) headlamp operates differently than the right hand (passenger side) headlamp.
The AFS LH (driver's side) low beam:
^ Has a maximum swivel angle of 20 degrees.
^ Begins turning the lamp at a steering wheel angle of approximately 20 degrees.
^ Reaches full angle operation at a steering wheel angle of 90-115 degrees (amount depends on vehicle speed).
^ Begins to turn at a speed about 16 mph (25 km/h).
^ Stops turning below 3 mph (5 km/h).
^ Is limited by vehicle speed to reduce the chance of the headlight annoying oncoming drivers.
The AFS RH (passenger's side) low beam:
^ Has a maximum swivel angle of 9 degrees.
^ Begins turning the lamp at a steering wheel angle of approximately 60 degrees.
^ Reaches full angle operation at a steering wheel angle of 99-139 degrees (amount depends on vehicle speed).
^ Operates at all vehicle speeds including when stopped except it will not turn at all when transmission is in P or R range.
NOTES:
^ When the engine is started both the left and right hand side low beams turn to the most inside position then return to their original position.
^ The AFS can be turned ON or OFF by the system switch located on the dash to the left of the steering column.
Rear Power Seat Cushion / Seat Back Removal
Seat Cushion
1. First pull the front end of the Seat Cushion UP to release the two Front Attachment Hooks (see Figure 2).
NOTE:
There is no lock-lever release required (just pull UP on the front end of the cushion to release the hooks).
2. Then pull the seat cushion forward (towards the front of the vehicle) to release the Rear Attachment Hook (see Figure 2).
Seat Back
The seat back has three locking points one at the lower part of the seat back and two at approximately the mid-point of the seat back. To remove the seat back do the following:
a. First place your hand behind the seat back and release the Lower Lock-Lever at the bottom of the seat back (see Figure 3). Pull down on the plastic D-Ring to release the Lock-Lever.
b. Then insert your hand higher in the seat back and release the two Middle Lock-Levers at the mid-point of the seat back (see Figure 3). Pull down on the plastic D-Rings to release the Lock-Levers.
Satellite (SAT) Radio
If the vehicle battery is discharged the satellite (SAT) radio may not operate (i.e. the SAT radio Icon "XM" or "SR" will not be shown on the vehicle information display when scrolling through the audio sources). To resolve this incident do the following:
1. First make sure the battery is fully charged.
2. Then turn the ignition key "ON" scroll through the audio sources and look at the vehicle information display.
a. If the SAT radio Icon "XM" or "SR" is shown on the vehicle information display the incident is resolved.
b. If the SAT radio Icon "XM" or "SR" is NOT shown on the vehicle information display go to step 3.
3. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
4. Disconnect the negative battery cable for 1 minute. Then reconnect the cable.
5. Turn the ignition key ON and confirm the SAT radio Icon "XM" or "SR" is shown on the vehicle information display.
6. Finally initialize the window and sunroof for proper operation.
^ See the Window Initialization Procedure in this bulletin.
^ See the Sunroof Initialization Procedure in this bulletin.
Speakers on Front Seats
^ In vehicles equipped with Bose Studio Surround the output of the seat-mounted speakers will vary according to which audio mode is selected (AM FM SAT CD DVD-Audio DVD-Video).
^ When in radio AM or FM modes the seat speaker output will be minimal.
^ Likewise the sound field changes produced by the Centerpoint feature will vary according to which audio mode is selected.
^ Refer to section AV of ESM for diagnosis of speaker operation and self-diagnostic functions.
