INTRODUCTION

The Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) system installed on some M35/45 models may not work as described in the owner's manual when operating in the Vehicle-to-Vehicle Distance Control Mode. To ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction Infiniti is conducting a Voluntary Service Campaign to reprogram the ICC control module to operate as specified in the owner's manual.

REPAIR OVERVIEW

CRITICAL STEPS FOR THE SERVICE PROCEDURE IN THIS CAMPAIGN

These CRITICAL STEPS will be shown with asterisks.

The following items must be performed to ensure a successful reprogramming of the Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) system. A detailed description of these critical steps can be found in this bulletin under the appropriate heading.

1. Once you have started ICC reprogramming on a vehicle, make sure it has been successfully completed before starting on another vehicle refer to (Malfunction Messages).

2. If it is determined that the ICC Control Unit must be reprogrammed all stored DTC's must be erased and repairs made before performing the reprogramming procedure (Part 2 Erase/repair and DTC's that are stored in any control unit).

3. Before inserting the orange Reprogramming Card into Consult II ensure that the CONSULT-II is turned OFF (Refer to Part 3: Download special Y50 ICC Reprogramming Data from Asist onto your standard 8 MB (Orange) Reprogramming Card).

4. It is critical that the vehicle battery charge rate be kept between 12V and 13.5V. Adjust the external battery charger to stay within this voltage range. Any deviation above or below this range will effect the outcome of the reprogramming (Refer to Section 3 Check/adjust the vehicle's battery voltage/CONSULT-II "Charger Input" voltage).

5. When the ICC reprogramming is complete, the ignition and the CONSULT-II must be turned OFF before disconnecting the DLC-II cable or the ICC reprogramming cable (Refer to Section 5: Perform ICC Control Unit Reprogramming under Step # 9).

6. After reprogramming the ICC, it is critical that any error codes be erased. You must press Erase and OK in all systems whether a DTC is displayed or not. This is required to complete the reprogramming procedure (refer to Section 6: Perform "erase" procedure for all systems in SELF-DIAG RESULTS.).

7. If the reprogramming operation did not start or could not be completed and one of the listed error messages is displayed on the Consult-II the reprogramming must be performed again. The ignition switch must be turned off for at least 10 seconds and then turned on before the reprogramming procedure is performed again (Refer to Malfunction Messages Steps # 2 and # 7).

8. Before re-attempting a reprogramming procedure after the programming operation did not start or could not be completed all malfunction history must be erased before the reprogramming procedure is attempted again (Refer to malfunction Messages).
