2006 M; RATTLE/BUZZ NOISE FROM GLOVE BOX

This bulletin amends ITB05-045. Please discard all paper copies of the earlier version.

APPLIED VEHICLE:
2006 M (Y50)

IF YOU CONFIRM

There is a rattle or buzz noise coming from the glove box area

And

The rattle goes away if upward (closing) pressure is applied to the glove box door.

ACTION

Apply felt cloth tape to the front of the glove box latch mechanism.

IMPORTANT:
The purpose of ACTIONS (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the glove box assembly as per the IP section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM).





2. Remove the three mounting screws from under the finisher shown in Figure 1





^ This finisher (instrument B finisher) is just above the glove box.

^ Then lift the finisher off.





3. Remove the 2 latch mounting screws and the lock cylinder mounting screw.





4. Remove the glove box lid lock cylinder from it's mounting position and then turn and twist the lock cylinder to detach it from the linkage rod.

5. Pull down the latch assembly.





6. Cut 3 pieces of felt cloth tape 55 mm long.





7. Apply 3 strips (side-by-side) of the 55 mm long by 5 mm wide felt cloth tape to cover the front of the latch assembly (side facing the passenger).





8. Use the tip of a screw to gently push through the tape to locate the mounting hole.

9. Reinstall the latch assembly.

10. Reinstall the glove box lid lock cylinder and connect the linkage rod to the latch.

11. Make sure the glove box lock operates correctly by manually flipping the latch closed and then opening it by pushing the key cylinder.

12. Reinstall the glove box assembly.

13. Confirm the rattle noise is no longer present.
