SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTES:

^ You do NOT have to remove the entire Headliner to perform this procedure.

^ The following procedure shows you how to repair the LH side (driver's side) of the Sunroof Frame. The same procedure applies to the RH side (passenger's side) of the Sunroof Frame.

^ Use suitable covers to protect upholstery carpet trim etc. when performing this procedure.

1. From the driver's seat: Open the Sunroof Sunshade and Sunroof Glass.

2. Remove the two Screws that secure the Driver's Grab Handle as follows:

a. First carefully remove the two Screw Covers from the Grab Handle (see Figure 2a).

b. Then remove the two Screws from the Grab Handle (see Figure 2b).

3. Reach up and pull the Driver's Door Upper Weather-strip DOWN (see Figure 3).

4. From the rear passenger seat (behind driver): Reach up and pull the Driver's Side Rear Passenger Door Upper Weather-strip DOWN (see Figure 4).

5. Remove the two Screws that secure the Driver's Side Rear Door Grab Handle as follows:

a. First carefully remove the two Screw Covers from the Grab Handle (see Figure 5a).

b. Then remove the two Screws from the Grab Handle (see Figure 5b).

6. Remove the Driver's Side Rear Door Light from the Headliner as follows:

a. First remove one Screw (see Figure 6a).

b. Then carefully pull DOWN on the front end of the light (see Figure 6b). Allow the Light to hang from its wire harness.

7. Carefully pull OUT on the top of the B Pillar Finisher to release it from the vehicle body (see Figure 7).

^ If needed use a Plastic Pry Tool or other suitable tool to un-snap the Metal Securing Clip on the backside of the Finisher upper area (see Figure 7).

^ If the Metal Securing Clip (upper B Pillar) is damaged and/or detaches from the Finisher do NOT reuse it. If you reuse a damaged/detached Clip the Finisher will not securely attach to the body.

^ Metal Securing Clip P/N: 76988.EG00A

^ When installing a new Metal Securing Clip make sure the Clip is fully seated onto the B Pillar Finisher plastic retainer.

8. Carefully pull DOWN on the Headliner to reach the incident area where the noise is (see Figure 8).

CAUTION:
Do NOT pull down on the Headliner at the Clip Holders. This will cause the Clip Holders to detach from the Headliner.

9. From the outside: Go to the driver's side front door and use a flat-blade Screwdriver to carefully create a 1/16 to 1/8 (1.6 mm to 3.2 mm) gap between the front of the Cross Brace and the Sunroof Frame (see Figure 9).

Creating a gap will get rid of the noise.

CAUTION:
Do NOT apply excessive force when creating the gaps. Excessive force may cause damage to the Cross Brace/Sunroof Frame.

10. Go to the Driver's Side Rear Door and carefully pull DOWN the Headliner to get to the incident area. Then using a flat-blade Screwdriver carefully create a 1/16 to 1/8 (1.6 mm to 3.2 mm) gap between the rear of the Cross Brace and the Sunroof Frame (see Figure 10).

^ Creating a gap will get rid of the noise.

CAUTION:
Do NOT apply excessive force when creating the gaps. Excessive force may cause damage to the Cross Brace/Sunroof Frame.

11. Carefully spray a small amount of Genuine Nissan Silicone Lubricant P/N 999MP-A3O1OP (or equivalent) to the rivet areas where the gaps were created.

CAUTION:
Avoid headliner damage (staining):

^ Place a clean dry shop towel between the headliner and sunroof to prevent silicone from dripping on the headliner.

^ Use the spray nozzle tube to accurately apply the silicone.

^ Wipe off excess silicone/lubricant.

12. Perform this procedure on the RH side of the Sunroof Frame.

13. Re-assemble all components in the reverse order they were removed.

14. Confirm the tick / creak noise is gone.
