Body/Interior - Sunroof Sunshade rattles/Buzz

RATTLE / BUZZ NOISE FROM SUNROOF SUNSHADE

APPLIED VEHICLE:
All 2006 M35 / M45 (Y50)

IF YOU CONFIRM:

An applied vehicle has a rattle / buzz noise coming from the Sunroof Sunshade under the following conditions:

^ Sunshade is closed

^ When driving between 30 and 70 MPH

AND

^ The noise stops when you press UP on the Sunshade

ACTION:

^ Slightly bend (curve) the front edge of the Sunshade with your fingers.

^ Apply Felt Cloth Tape to the backside of the Sunshade Handle. Refer to the Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

CAUTION:
Use suitable covers to protect upholstery, carpet, trim, etc. when performing this procedure.

Bend (Curve) Front Edge of Sunshade

1. Open the Sunroof and Sunroof Sunshade.





2. With clean hands/gloves carefully bend (curve) the front edge of the Sunshade slightly UPWARD as shown in Figure 1. This will help remove any excess clearance between the Sunshade and the Sliding Track.

Apply Felt Cloth Tape to Sunshade Handle





3. Remove the Sunshade Handle as shown in Figure 2.





4. Apply four strips of Felt Cloth Tape (P/N 68239-13E00) to the backside of the Sunroof Handle as shown in Figure 3.

5. Re-install the Sunshade Handle making sure it's fully seated (snapped in place).

6. Confirm the rattle / buzz noise is gone.

If the noise is not gone bend (curve) the front corner edges of the Sunshade a little more.
