SERVICE INFORMATION
If the fuel pressure on an applied vehicle needs to be checked, use Fuel Pressure Gauge kit J-44321. This kit is an essential tool and will be sent to each dealer.
The following Service Procedure provides fuel pressure gauge connecting instructions for each applied vehicle.
NOTE:
For vehicles that have the hose-clamp type fuel line connections, use the hose-clamp type quick connect hose (see Figure 7).
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Fuel Pressure Gauge Connection for 2000-2001 I30
1. Release fuel pressure from the fuel system. Refer to the "Fuel Pressure Release Procedure".
2. Temporarily disconnect three hoses as shown in Figure 1.
3. Install the Inline Fuel Quick Disconnect fitting between the fuel damper and the fuel tube (see Figure 2).
CAUTION:
Do not over tighten the bolts when installing the Inline Fuel Quick Disconnect fitting.
NOTE:
Apply Canopus 13 oil (P/N 999MP-AJ000) to the 0-ring on the Quick Disconnect fitting and the fuel damper before installation (see Figure 2).
4. Connect the fuel pressure test gauge (Quick Connect adapter hose) to the Quick Disconnect fitting (see Figure 2).
5. Perform the fuel pressure test.
6. Release fuel pressure from the fuel system. Refer to the "Fuel Pressure Release Procedure".
7. Remove the Quick Disconnect fitting.
8. Again, apply Canopus 13 oil to the fuel damper 0-ring.
9. Re-install the fuel damper to the fuel tube.
10. Re-connect the three hoses as shown in Figure 1
11. Operate the fuel system and confirm there are NO fuel leaks.
Fuel Pressure Gauge Connection for 1999-2000 QX4 (with VG33E)
1. Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system. Refer to the "Fuel Pressure Release Procedure" .
2. Install the Inline Fuel Quick Disconnect fitting between the fuel feed hose and the fuel tube (see Figure 3).
CAUTION:
Do not over tighten the bolts when installing the Inline Fuel Quick Disconnect fitting.
NOTE:
Apply Canopus 13 oil (P/N 999MP-AJ000) to the 0-ring on the Quick Disconnect fitting and the fuel feed hose before installation (see Figure 3).
3. Connect the fuel pressure test gauge (Quick Connect adapter hose) to the Inline Fuel Quick Disconnect fitting (see Figure 3).
4. Perform the fuel pressure test.
5. Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system. Refer to the "Fuel Pressure Release Procedure".
6. Remove the Quick Disconnect fitting.
7. Again, apply Canopus 13 oil to the fuel feed hose 0-ring.
8. Re-install the fuel feed hose to the fuel tube.
9. Operate the fuel system and confirm there are NO fuel leaks.
Fuel Pressure Gauge Connection for 2001 QX4 (with VQ35DE)
1. Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system. Refer to the "Fuel Pressure Release Procedure".
2. Remove two nuts and one screw and remove the engine upper cover (see Figure 4).
3. Disconnect the Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) cable from the ASCD cable bracket and re-position it to gain access to the fuel damper (see Figure 5).
4. Install the Inline Fuel Quick Disconnect fitting between the fuel damper and the fuel tube (see Figure 6).
CAUTION:
Do not over tighten the bolts when installing the Inline Fuel Quick Disconnect fitting.
NOTE:
Apply Canopus 13 oil (P/N 999MP-AJ000) to the 0-ring on the Quick Disconnect fitting and the fuel damper before installation (see Figure 6).
5. Connect the fuel pressure test gauge (Quick Connect adapter hose) to the Quick Disconnect fitting (see Figure 6).
6. Perform the fuel pressure test.
7. Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system. Refer to the "Fuel Pressure Release Procedure".
8. Remove the Quick Disconnect fitting.
9. Again, apply Canopus 13 oil to the fuel damper 0-ring.
10. Re-install the fuel damper to the fuel tube.
11. Re-insert the ASCD cable in the bracket making sure the crimp band is correctly positioned (see Figure 5).
12. Operate the fuel system and confirm there are NO fuel leaks.
13. Re-install the engine upper cover (see Figure 4).
Fuel Pressure Release Procedure
With CONSULT-II
1. Turn the ignition switch "ON".
2. Connect CONSULT-II and perform the "Fuel Pressure Release" function in the "Work Support Mode".
3. Start the engine and let it run until it stalls.
4. Crank the engine two or three times to release all fuel pressure.
5. Turn the ignition switch "OFF".
Without CONSULT-II
1. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box.
2. Start the engine and let it run until it stalls.
3. Crank the engine two or three times to release all fuel pressure.
4. Turn the ignition switch "OFF".
5. Re-install the fuel pump fuse AFTER connecting the fuel pressure gauge.
Hose-Clamp Type Fuel Line Connections
Connect the Quick Connect hose as shown, on vehicles with hose-clamp type fuel line connections.
