TITLE:
1999 G20 - SUN VISOR LIGHT INOPERATIVE

APPLIED VEHICLE:
1999 G20 (P11)

SERVICE INFORMATION

Use this bulletin to perform repairs if the sun visor vanity light in a 1999 G20 does one or more of the following:

1. Intermittent operation when the mirror cover is opened;

2. Flickering "on" and "off" when the cover is opened;

3. Turns on normally when the mirror cover is partially opened, but turns off when the cover is fully opened.

Such incidents may be caused by out of position contact points (contact may become intermittent or completely lost when the sun visor vanity cover is fully opened). The incident is corrected by firmly attaching the rear cover of the vanity to the body of the vanity.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

The sun visor does NOT need to be removed from the vehicle in order to perform this repair.

1. Flip down the sun visor and open the vanity mirror cover.

2. Wrap a piece of cloth around a flathead tool and insert the tool between lower center surface of the vanity mirror assembly and the sun visor (see Figure 1). Pry the vanity mirror assembly up, separating it from the sun visor. After the vanity mirror assembly is released, slide it towards the bottom of the visor, freeing the top edge.

CAUTION - Extra care should be taken to prevent damage to trim surfaces and mirror light wiring.

3. Rotate the vanity mirror assembly to the top of the visor. Do NOT disconnect the vanity mirror assembly from the sun visor (see Figure 2).

4. Apply a small amount of epoxy glue between the cardboard backing and the edge of the vanity mirror's plastic frame (see Figure 3).

DO NOT allow the glue to flow inside the vanity mirror frame. It may contaminate the electrical contacts.

5. Apply cellophane tape to keep the cardboard backing and the plastic frame secured until the glue cures. The repaired vanity mirror assembly should look like the one in Figure 4.

6. Carefully re-install the vanity mirror assembly in the sun visor and test.

PARTS INFORMATION

There are NO parts required.
