SERVICE INFORMATION
If an applied 1999 G20 left hand side defroster grill moves out of position at it's left edge (where the theft warning indicator is located), use this bulletin to repair the incident.
This incident may be caused by interference between the main wiring harness and the connector of the theft warning indicator.
This incident is corrected by the installation of a new, shorter theft warning indicator using the following service procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the left hand side defroster grill shown in Figure 1.
a) The grill is retained by a series of four pawls on the rear side (see Figure 2).
b) If the left edge of the grill is lifted, carefully lift the rest of the grill by working along the rear edge (closest to the steering wheel). Use a slim screwdriver or other blade, wrapped with a soft material, to pop each pawl. Once loosened, remove the grill by lifting and pulling carefully towards you.
c) If the grill has been re-seated, start by carefully lifting the left end and working along the rear edge. Use a slim screwdriver or other blade, wrapped with a soft material, to pop each pawl. Once loosened, remove the grill by lifting and pulling towards you.
2. Unplug the theft warning indicator from the wiring harness.
3. Remove the theft warning lamp indicator from the defroster grill and discard.
4. Install the new theft warning indicator, part number 28592-7J105 (see Figure 3 for a comparison of the new and the former indicator).
5. Plug the theft warning indicator into the wiring harness.
6. Re-install the defroster grill.
