Service Procedure - J30

1. Move the driver's seat to the most forward position. Tilt the seat-back as far forward as possible.

2. Remove both left front and left rear door opening sill finishers.

3. Remove the lower "B" pillar finisher by pulling it straight out from the top, then lifting it out past the seat belt (Figure 1).

NOTE:
If any of the white plastic clips for the finisher remain in the "B" pillar, remove them and install onto the finisher. If the white plastic clips are damaged, replace them using P/N 01553-07381 (Figure 2). The part number for the two metal clips is 76988-60U00.

NOTE:
If the foam block on the rear of the "B" pillar lower finisher is loose, or has fallen off, it may be discarded. For more information, please see Infiniti Service Bulletin ITB95-012a/BT95-002a, dated April 19, 1995, entitled "J30 Loose "B" Pillar Lower Finisher Repair Procedure."

4. Pull out from the top the plastic cover above the seat belt reel assembly. Position the cover below the opening (Figure 3).

NOTE:
The LH plastic cover is gray in color. The RH plastic cover is semi-transparent.

5. Pull the wire harness out of the "B" pillar cavity to expose the 2 foam covered connectors (Figure 4).

6. Remove the foam covering from the connectors as thoroughly as possible.

CAUTION:
Do not allow remnants of the old foam protector to fall into the B-pillar or on the seat belt retractor area.

7. Using the new foam wrap (P/N 24271-2P010), wrap both connectors together, ensuring the connectors and any remnants of the old foam protector are covered (Figure 5).

NOTE:
Do not trim the new foam wrap, use the entire foam wrap on the connectors.

8. Re-position the wire harness back into the "B" pillar cavity (Figure 6).

9. Ensure the wire harness is positioned correctly on the plastic cover, and install the cover onto the "B" pillar. Make sure all the cover clips are completely secured to the "B" pillar.

10. Install the "B" pillar lower finisher back into position on the "B" pillar by positioning the upper clips into place first. Then position the lower clips into place, and press on the finisher firmly to seat the clips.

NOTE:
Make sure the seat belt is not twisted into the reel mechanism before installing the "B" pillar lower finisher.

11. Install the front and rear door opening sill finishers back onto the door sills.

12 Follow steps 1-11 for the passenger side.
