J30 SEAT RECLINER SWITCH BUTTON

APPLIED MODEL: 1993 J30 delivered into Dealer stock prior to April 8, 1992

SERVICE INFORMATION

On some J30 vehicles, the seat recliner button may become mispositioned after being pushed. To prevent this from occurring, two plastic stiffeners can be fitted into the switch button as a permanent countermeasure. Production vehicles will incorporate a revised switch button.

OWNER NOTICE

To maintain our high image in customer handling, Infiniti has prepared a script for dealer management to use in advising their J30 owners. All owners are to be contacted by telephone about this switch incident. Infiniti has also mailed an owner letter.

CUSTOMER SERVICE OPTIONS

To maintain our high standards for Field Service Actions, Infiniti will again provide its customers the opportunity to select the mode of service which maximizes their convenience. Customers desiring service at their dealer may do so by scheduling a service appointment. However, customers having special needs may call Infiniti Consumer Affairs a 1-800-662-6200. Infiniti Consumer Affairs staff will work with the consumer and the servicing dealership to confirm an appointment using one of the following options (in priority order):

1. Resolve concern with servicing dealer to perform prescribed services and schedule an appointment.

2. Send a dealer representative (Service Technician) to owner's location to repair vehicle.

3. Flat bed tow vehicle to dealer to perform service.

Generally, the approach will be to have customers within 30 miles of an Infiniti dealer bring their vehicles in for service. If they wish otherwise, actions 2 or 3, coordinated with and approved by the servicing dealer, will be taken. We estimate that fewer than 20 customers, based on our analysis of owner's proximity to an Infiniti dealer, will require the special assistance of actions 2 or 3.

CUSTOMER "THANK YOU"

Repair actions and assistance will be funded by Infiniti. Additionally, the following is to be performed on each vehicle returned to the dealership for repair:

1. Hand wash vehicle, vacuum and detail in accordance with Infiniti Technical Bulletin ITB90-034.

2. Fill fuel tank with premium unleaded fuel.

The wash and detail will be compensated at 0.4 hrs., while dealers may claim fuel at actual expense up to fuel tank maximum capacity, similar to PDI.

DEALER COMPENSATION

Dealers will be paid for inspection and repairs as follows:

1. Labor = Flat Rate Time (.2 hrs.) x approved dealership warranty labor rate.

2. Fuel = actual expense up to tank size maximum.

3. Hand wash/detail = 0.4 hrs.

4. Service at owner's home = straight time, up to 2.0 hrs. maximum.

Dealer evidence of expense for fuel, and labor time must be maintained by the dealer in accordance with Infiniti Warranty Policy and Procedures and are subject to review and audit.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove recliner switch button from the drivers and passenger seat by pulling button away from seat side finisher.

2. Insert plastic stiffeners into button using needle-nose pliers as shown below. No adhesive is necessary, however the stiffeners must be inserted completely into the button until they contact the base to insure that the stiffeners will not become dislodged in the button.

3. Reinstall the button onto the seat recliner switch.

4. Check for proper seat recliner switch operation.
