M30 CONVERTIBLE TOP BOOT REPLACEMENT - DEALER

INVENTORY AND VPC STOCK ONLY

APPLIED MODELS/PRODUCTION DATE: 1991-92 M30 Convertibles converted by ASC, prior to December 2, 1991.

APPLIED RANGE: Convertibles in Dealer stock only.

RELATED INFORMATION: ITB 91-017A (BF91-001A) - April 18, 1991

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to limited availability, boots are being supplied for new or demonstrator vehicles in dealer inventory only. New boots will be offered to existing owners under a separate communication, tentatively planned for March, 1992. In-use vehicles require additional inspection and rework. We recommend that you not use the supplied boots for retailed units.

SERVICE INFORMATION:

M30 Convertibles, built before the Applied Date, have top boots that do not stay attached to the quarter belt moldings at the rear corners. To resolve this, a new top boot has been developed that does not attach to the quarter and back belt moldings. It is now in production. The new style boot has a flat plastic retainer sewn into the perimeter of the boot. The retainer has tabs that slide under the quarter and back belt moldings.

Vehicles in dealer stock can be retrofitted with a new style boot; however, it is necessary to remove the back belt molding so that three (3) adhesive-backed spacers can be installed. The spacers allow the boot tabs to slide between the back belt molding and the top cover [see page 2/6].

If the top stack, in its full-down position, is not low enough [in other words, the center rail weatherstrips may rub on the top boot material] the vehicle may require further repairs. If you encounter this situation, please call the FIXS HOTLINE (1-800-NMC-FIXS) for further repair instructions.
