Inspect and Service A-Pillar/Header Weatherstrip Sealer
1. Lower the convertible top to the down position.2. Using a suitable, non-marring (ie: plastic) flat-bladed tool, pry up the header molding end cap along the bottom leading edge that mates with the A-Pillar retainer (Figure 1).
CAUTION:
Do not raise the header molding end cap more than 10 - 12 mm. Otherwise, the molding may bend or distort and, therefore, the piece will not fit properly upon re-attachment (Figure 2).
3. Inspect the area under the header molding end cap for gray foam or thumb-grade sealer ("dum-dum").
^ If foam or thumb-grade sealer ("dum-dum") is present, remove either compound and proceed with Step 4.
^ If black butyl rubber is present (it will be in the shape of a compressed ball; see Figure 3), re-install the header molding cap; no further work is required.
4. Using 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive (3M P/N 051135-08008), apply a bead between the header weatherstrip and the painted portion of the body above the windshield (Figure 3).
5. Obtain a 2" length x 1/2" wide butyl strip and roll into a ball.
6. Place butyl between the weatherstrip and the painted portion of the body at the top of the A-Pillar (see Figure 3).
7. Apply a bead of 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive (3M P/N 051135-08008), to cover the butyl in the area specified in Step 6.
8. Re-install the header molding end cap by snapping the molding over the A-Pillar retainer.
9. Repeat the service procedure for the A-Pillar Weatherstrip on the opposite side.
