I. Remove Rear Rail Proximity Switch/Bracket & Upstop
1. Open the door and turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.2. Using the "TOP DOWN", switch, lower the convertible top halfway.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
4. Detach the windlace from the lock pillar (at the B-Pillar) pinch weld flange (Figure 1).
5. Remove the seat belt upper anchor bolt cap.
6. Remove the seat belt upper anchor bolt.
7. Remove the two (2) screws - with the snaps - securing the top of the quarter trim panel to the body.
8. Carefully lift the quarter trim panel slightly off the body.
NOTE:
Not all of the fasteners which secure the quarter trim panel to the body are removed because the trim panel is not removed from the vehicle.
9. Carefully reach down between the quarter trim panel and the top mechanism and disconnect the proximity switch harness (this is a blue plug) (Figure 2).
10. Attach a length of wire or string around the proximity switch wire harness. This will prevent it from falling into the top mechanism when it is removed.
11. Remove the plastic upper jam nut on the proximity switch and discard the jam nut (Figure 3).
12. Detach the wire or string from the top stack and remove the proximity switch from the car.
NOTE:
On some late production X3C Convertibles, the proximity switch harness is additionally-secured with a plastic retention clip (Figure 4). It is fastened with a screw which must be removed using a # 2 Phillips head screw driver. Before removing the proximity switch, note the routing of the wire harness through the top stack mechanism.
13. Detach the length of wire or string from the current proximity switch and discard the switch.
14. Loosen the jam nut on the current upstop, then, back out the upstop. Grasp the proximity switch bracket while removing the upstop (Figure 5).
15. Discard the current proximity switch bracket, the current upstop and the current jam nut.
