APPLIED MODELS:
1991-93 G20

SERVICE INFORMATION:

If a driver/passenger of 1991-93 G20 vehicle complains that the motorized shoulder belts lock up too frequently or seem to respond too sensitively to changes in vehicle speed or position, modified motorized shoulder belt retractors are now available as service parts to help address customer satisfaction issues. Although these modifications to the retractor assembly should reduce customer comments about shoulder belt operation, customers may still experience occasional shoulder belt lock-up. This reflects normal seat belt operation.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the seat assembly from the vehicle and remove the plastic finisher.

2. Remove the bolts which hold the shoulder belt assembly and lap belt buckle to the seat track.

3. Loosen the seat track bolts to provide space between the seat frame and track for removal of the electrical connector to the shoulder belt.

4. Install the new shoulder belt assembly positioning the electrical connector first.

5. Hand tighten the bolts for the seat track, shoulder belt and seat belt buckle to assure proper alignment. Torque to the specifications shown in Figure 1.

6. Reinstall the finisher, use a new Press Nut (P/N 87873-50J00) if the original was damaged.

7. Reinstall the seat assembly, taking care to reconnect the electrical system.

CAUTION:
The seat track may bind or both side rails may not engage at the same time if Steps 8 or 9 are not properly followed.

8. Tighten the seat assembly anchor bolts using the following procedure:

a. Start all four bolts by hand.

b. Move the seat all the way rearward and confirm that both latches are fully engaged.

C. Torque the front inner anchor bolt.

d. Hand tighten the front outer anchor bolt, allowing a small amount of seat track free play.

e. Move the seat all the way forward and confirm that both latches are fully engaged.

f. Torque the rear inner anchor bolt.

g. Torque the rear outer anchor bolt.

h. Move the seat all the way rearward and confirm that both latches are fully engaged.

i. Torque the front outer anchor bolt.

9. Check the slide rail latching operation in all seat positions on both the driver and the passenger seats. If both latches do not fully engage properly or the seat does not slide smoothly, use the alternate procedure listed below:

a. Loosen all four bolts a couple turns.

b. Move the seat all the way forward and confirm that both latches are fully engaged.

c. Torque the rear inner anchor bolt.
