Engine Teardown

1. Remove engine outer components, Fig. 25.
2. Place engine on suitable workstand.
3. Drain coolant and engine oil.
4. Remove cylinder heads as previously described.
5. Remove oil pan as previously described.
6. Remove timing chain as previously described.
7. Remove pistons.
8. Remove bearing beam, bearing caps and crankshaft loosening attaching bolts in sequence, Fig. 26.

PISTON & ROD ASSEMBLY

1. Using ring remover, remove piston rings.
2. Using suitable tool, drive out pin.

CYLINDER HEAD

1. Remove rocker arms, shims, rocker arm guides and hydraulic lash adjusters. Keep disassembled parts in order.
2. Remove throttle chamber with accel-drum unit.
3. Remove EGR tube and exhaust manifold cover.
4. Remove exhaust manifold, then fuel tube assembly.
5. Remove intake manifold.
6. Remove intake manifold collector from intake manifold.
7. Remove water outlet and electrical connector.
8. Remove thermostat housing with water pipe.
9. Using valve spring compressor, remove valve components and oil seal.
