Procedure: Overview
1. Remove engine undercover (G20 - remove undercover on the right side only).
2. After the engine coolant and engine components have cooled down, drain engine coolant from radiator and remove threaded freeze plug (For plug location refer to application chart.)
Q45 only
A. If the freeze plug has an external hex bolt head, remove it using a 24 mm socket with a universal joint, extension and ratchet through existing access. Do not remove or disturb any other vehicle components in order to remove the freeze plug.
B. If the freeze plug has an internal (recessed) hex head, it is necessary to open a more direct perpendicular access to the freeze plug in order to remove it. Other procedures may damage freeze plug head and will make removal difficult. Proceed as follows (refer to Infiniti Q45 Service Manual "Power Steering System" section for additional information on the following steps):
(1) Loosen two (2) power steering fluid line connections coming from the P/S pump at the pinion housing.
(2) Remove four (4) bolts securing steering rack assembly to transverse member of vehicle's frame.
(3) Position wheels in straight-ahead position. Mark positioning of steering shaft lower joint with respect to steering gear cap at the pinion housing (marks will have to be aligned when components are re-installed). Loosen and remove steering shaft lower joint at protrusion of steering gear cap.
(4) Remove heat shield above pinion housing.
(5) Reposition by hand steering gear assembly towards the rear of the vehicle in order to open a more direct perpendicular access to the freeze plug.
(6) Remove freeze plug using a 12 mm hex bit with extension and ratchet.

3. Apply a thin layer of gasket sealant (Nissan P/N 999MP-A7007) on both sides of the gasket. Slide it over the engine block heater threads.
4. Install engine block heater to engine block being careful not to damage the threads. Torque heater to 32 +/- 4 ft.lb. (4.5 +/- 0.5 kg.m.).
Q45 only Reinstall and reposition all components removed in Step 2-B. Make sure to:
^ Properly bleed and refill power steering system to proper level.
^ Align steering shaft lower joint mark to steering gear cap mark made on Step 2-B (3).
NOTE: Refer to Q45 Service Manual "Power Steering System" section for bleeding procedures, tightening torque specifications and additional information.
Q45 and G20
5. Connect power cord to engine block heater and route cord as follows:
Q45 (Figure 2)
From engine block heater route cord forward and down between the left side (driver side) engine mount and engine block, over the rubber insulated portion of the power steering tubes and under the transmission lines on the left side (driver side) of the engine oil case. Attach cord to the transmission lines bracket with a tie wrap. Continue routing cord under the transmission lines and attach it with a tie wrap to the tube/hose union of the transmission line on the right side (passenger side). Route cord over tension rod bracket, through opening on left front corner, and out of the vehicle through the front lower grille. Secure cord to a vertical member of front grille with a tie wrap. Make sure that power cord does not hang out excessively.
G20 (Figure 3 & 4)
From engine block heater route cord down, between drive shaft and engine block, toward front of the vehicle between exhaust pipe and engine oil case (Figure 3). Attach cord to engine block ear on left side of compressor with a tie wrap. Continue routing cord along the left side of the compressor and attach it to the hose part of the compressor high pressure hose with a tie wrap. Route cord under radiator core support and out to the front of the vehicle through right side opening of front lower grille. Secure cord to grille with tie wrap (Figure 4).
Q45 and G20
CAUTION: Make sure that power cord is not routed close to or touching any of the vehicle's moving parts or hot surfaces.
6. Refill cooling system; pressurize to radiator cap relief pressure and check for leaks. Operate engine to check further for leaks. Refer to manufacturer's Service Manual "Engine Cooling System" section
NOTE: It is recommended that low phosphate anti-freeze be used and that a maximum anti-freeze/water mixture ratio of 50/50 be used. Refer to Infiniti Owner's Manual "Engine Cooling System" section.
7. Reinstall engine undercover.
8. Use cable end protector cap when heater is not plugged into power source.
