IMPROPER DASH MOUNTED CD PLAYER OPERATION
APPLIED MODEL: 1990 M30
SERVICE INFORMATION
On some of the Applied Models, dash mounted CD players may not function properly after installation. When this occurs, the CD disc is inserted into the player, but does play normally - that is, the disc will not play at all, will continuously fast forward, or will continuously reverse. On vehicles with CD players that exhibit any of these conditions, use the Service Procedure below to diagnose and eliminate the malfunction.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Inspect the mounting location of the CD player, checking to see if the control buttons along the bottom edge of the player are contacting the dash panel center finisher (Figure 1). If there is contact, perform the following steps.
NOTE: When contact between the dash panel and button(s) occurs, some or all of these buttons may be continuously activated, not allowing the player to function properly.
1. Remove the center finisher that surrounds the radio and CD player.
2. Loosen the four (4) attaching screws that hold the radio and CD player bracket to the dash panel.
3. Lift the bracket as high as possible.
4. Tighten the attaching screws while holding up the bracket (Figure 2).
5. Re-install the center finisher.
6. Check the clearance between the finisher and the control buttons. If this clearance is less than 0.5 mm, carefully trim the finisher until a clearance of 0.5 mm is achieved.
7. Check CD player operation. If the described contact continues to cause player malfunction, carefully trim small amounts of additional material from the center finisher at the contact point. Re-check player operation.
