Advanced Diagnostics - DTC P0A78 (32): Motor Power Inverter (MPI) Module Internal Circuit MalfunctionGeneral Description
The motor power inverter (MPI) module transmits failure information to the motor control module (MCM) via serial communication when a nonvolatile memory failure, an internal temperature sensor failure, or insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) gate over voltage occurs. When the MCM receives failure information for a specified duration, a malfunction is detected and a DTC is stored.

Enable Conditions
Malfunction Threshold
The MCM receives the nonvolatile memory failure, the internal temperature sensor failure, or the IGBT gate over voltage failure for at least 0.5 second.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the MCM memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
