Camshaft Replacement




Camshaft Replacement

Front

1. Do the battery removal procedure.

2. Remove the battery base.

3. Remove the EGR valve Service and Repair.

4. Remove the EGR valve stud bolts (A).





5. Remove the timing belt Timing Belt Removal.

6. Remove the front rocker arm assembly.

7. Remove the front camshaft pulley.

8. Remove the thrust cover (A), then remove the front camshaft (B).





9. Install the front camshaft in the reverse order of removal. Always use a new O-ring (C). Apply new engine oil to the journals and the cam lobes.

10. Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft pulley mounting bolt, then install the front camshaft pulley.

11. Install the front rocker arm assembly, then tighten the mounting bolts.

12. Install the timing belt Timing Belt Installation.

13. Adjust the valve clearance Adjustments.

14. Install the EGR valve stud bolts, then install the EGR valve Service and Repair.

15. Install the battery base.

16. Do the battery installation procedure.

17. Do the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure.

Rear

1. Relieve the fuel pressure Service and Repair.

2. Do the battery removal procedure.

3. Remove the under-hood fuse/relay box.

4. Drain the engine coolant Service and Repair.

5. Remove the quick-connector fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B):

- 2WD Fuel Line/Quick-Connect Fitting Removal
- 4WD Fuel Line/Quick-Connect Fitting Removal





6. Disconnect the heater hoses (C) and remove the EVAP canister purge joint (D) with the bracket.

7. Remove the timing belt Timing Belt Removal.

8. Remove the rear rocker arm assembly.

9. Remove the rear camshaft pulley.

10. Remove the upper transmission mount.

11. Remove the thrust cover (A), then remove the rear camshaft (B).





12. Install the rear camshaft in the reverse order of removal. Always use a new O-ring (C). Apply new engine oil to the journals and the cam lobes.

13. Install the upper transmission mount.

14. Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft pulley mounting bolt, then install the rear camshaft pulley.

15. Install the rear rocker arm assembly, then tighten the mounting bolts.

16. Install the timing belt Timing Belt Installation.

17. Adjust the valve clearance Adjustments.

18. Connect the heater hoses and install the EVAP canister purge joint with the bracket.

19. Connect the fuel feed hose, then install the quick-connect fitting cover:

- 2WD Fuel Line/Quick-Connect Fitting Installation
- 4WD Fuel Line/Quick-Connect Fitting Installation

20. Install the under-hood fuse/relay box.

21. Do the battery installation procedure.

22. Inspect for fuel leaks. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) (do not operate the starter) so the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line. Repeat this operation three times, then check for fuel leakage at any point in the fuel line.

23. Fill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system.

24. Do the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure.
