Rear Differential Removal




Rear Differential Removal

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Service and Repair.

2. Drain the rear differential fluid Rear Differential Fluid Inspection And Replacement.

3. Remove the rear wheels.

4. Remove the muffler Service and Repair.

5. Remove the lower arm A mounting bolts (A) and the lower arm B mounting bolts (B).






6. Make reference mark (A) across the No. 2 propeller shaft (B) and the rear differential companion flange (C). Separate the No. 2 propeller shaft from the rear differential.

NOTE: Suspend the propeller shaft with an appropriate size nylon strap.






7. Place a transmission jack (A) under the rear differential assembly (B).





8. Remove the rear differential rear mount bolts (C) and the front mount bolts (D).

9. Lower the rear differential assembly while pulling both rear driveshaft inboard joints out of the rear differential assembly.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the driveshaft ring (A) when prying out the rear driveshaft inboard joints.
