Rear Differential Installation




Rear Differential Installation

1. Raise and support the vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Install the rear differential front mounts (A) to the rear subframe with new rear differential front mount bolts (B) loosely.





3. Raise the rear differential with the transmission jack.

4. Install a new set ring (A) into the groove (B) of the rear driveshaft inboard joint on both sides.






5. Lift the rear differential up into position. Insert the driveshafts (C) into the rear differential on both sides. Turn push on driveshaft to lock the set ring into place.

6. Tighten new rear differential front mount bolts (A) to the specified torque.





7. Tighten new rear differential rear mount bolts (B) to the specified torque.

8. Tighten the rear differential front mount bolts (A) to the specified torque.






9. Attach the No. 2 propeller shaft (A) to the rear differential companion flange (B) by aligning the reference mark (C) you made during the removal procedure.






10. Loosely install the new lower arm A mounting bolts (A) and the new lower arm B mounting bolts (B).






11. Place a floor jack under the lower arm, and raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight.

12. Tighten the lower arm A mounting bolts and the lower arm B mounting bolts to the specified torque.

13. Install the muffler Service and Repair.

14. Clean the mating surfaces between the brake disc/drum and the inside of the wheel, then install the rear wheels.

15. Refill the rear differential with the recommended fluid Rear Differential Fluid Inspection And Replacement.

16. Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary Service and Repair.

17. Test-drive the vehicle.
