No Signal From the ODS Unit
DTC 81-62, 85-62:
Incorrect Data From the ODS Unit
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
1. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
2. Clear the DTC memory.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
4. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 81-61, 85-61, 81-62, or 85-62 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Remove the seat back panel Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement.
7. Turn over the reinforcing cloth, then release the hooks.
8. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit.
9. Check the connection between the ODS unit 18P connector and the ODS unit.
Is the connection OK?
YES -
Go to step 10.
NO -
Repair the poor connection, then clear the DTC, and retest. If DTC 81-61, 85-61, 81-62, or 85-62 is still present, go to step 10.
10. Check the No. 9 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the under-dash fuse/relay box No. 9 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (floor wire harness, front passenger's seat wire harness (with seat heater), or ODS unit harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the under-dash fuse/relay box Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal And Installation, then clear the DTC.
11. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit.
12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
13. Measure the voltage between ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 14.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness (with seat heater), or the ODS unit harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
15. Measure the resistance between ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 12 and body ground. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
Open in the ODS unit harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness (with seat heater), the floor wire harness, or poor ground connection at G602. If the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness.
16. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
17. Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the SRS unit.
18. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 19.
NO -
Short to ground in the dashboard wire harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness (with seat heater), the ODS unit harness, or the floor wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
19. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
20. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
21. Measure the voltage between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and body ground. There should be less than 0.2 V.
Is the voltage as specified?
YES -
Go to step 22.
NO -
Short to power in the dashboard wire harness, the floor wire harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness (with seat heater), or the ODS unit harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
22. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
23. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 7. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty ODS unit or SRS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.
NO -
Open in the dashboard wire harness, the floor wire harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness (with seat heater), or the ODS unit harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
