DTC Troubleshooting: U1204 (55)

DTC U1204 (55):

IMA-CAN Malfunction (PCM-BCM Module)

NOTE:

- To verify this is the appropriate troubleshooting procedure, jump the SCS with the HDS and read the flash code, or change the HDS setup to show HM codes and read the HM code.
- Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data, and review the general troubleshooting information Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs in the IMA SYSTEM with the HDS.

Is DTC U0037 (99) indicated?

YES -

Do the troubleshooting for DTC U0037 (99) U0037.

NO -

Go to step 3.

3. Clear the DTC with the HDS Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs in the IMA SYSTEM with the HDS.

Is DTC U1204 (55) indicated?

YES -

Go to step 5.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the PCM, the BCM module, and the MCM.�

5. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs in the IMA SYSTEM and the PGM-FI SYSTEM with the HDS.

Are DTC U1204 (95) and U0037 (PGM-FI SYSTEM) indicated?

YES -

Go to step 6.

NO -

Go to step 19.

6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

7. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

8. Disconnect PCM connector A (44P).

9. Turn the battery module switch OFF High Voltage Safety.

10. Remove the IPU lid IPU Lid Removal/Installation.

11. Disconnect BCM module connector A (40P).

12. Check for continuity between BCM module connector terminals A20 and PCM connector terminal A38, and between BCM connector terminal A40 and PCM connector terminal A39.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software PCM Update, or substitute a known-good PCM Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, then recheck. If symptom/indication goes away with an updated PCM, go to step 13. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM Service and Repair, then go to step 13.

NO -

Repair open in the wire between the PCM, the BCM module (A20, A40), and the MCM (No. 1, No. 11), then go to step 13.

13. Reconnect all connectors.

14. Reinstall the IPU lid IPU Lid Removal/Installation, then turn the battery module switch ON High Voltage Safety.

15. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

16. Clear the DTC with the HDS Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

17. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs in the IMA SYSTEM with the HDS.

Is DTC U1204 (55) is indicated?

YES -

Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the PCM, the BCM module, and the MCM, then go to step 1.

NO -

Go to step 18.

18. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC U1204 (55) in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the screen indicate PASSED?

YES -

Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 17, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�

NO -

If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the PCM, the BCM module, and the MCM, then go to step 1. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, keep the ignition switch ON (II) until a result comes on.

19. Update the BCM module if it does not have the latest software Testing and Inspection, or substitute a known-good BCM module Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

20. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs in the IMA SYSTEM with the HDS.

Is DTC U1204 (55) indicated?

YES -

Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the PCM, the BCM module, and the MCM. If the BCM module was updated, substitute a known-good BCM module Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, then recheck. If the BCM module was substituted, go to step 1.

NO -

Go to step 21.

21. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC U1204 (55) in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the screen indicate PASSED?

YES -

If the BCM module was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the BCM module was substituted, replace the original BCM module Service and Repair. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 20, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�

NO -

If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the PCM, the BCM module, and the MCM. If the BCM module was updated, substitute a known-good BCM module Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, then recheck. If the BCM module was substituted, go to step 1. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED keep the ignition switch ON (II) until a result comes on.
